I like strong-sounding unfussy names for girls. I love both of these but need more of a shortlist. Any thoughts? Are these two the right side of 'try hard?'

Lux is a soap and sounds too much like 'looks' imo.
Quinn is nice, though very boyish in the UK. Not so much in the USA so it sounds very American to me.

You can also use Alex for a girl

One of my very dearest friends in the entire world is Judith nn Jude. I am ashamed to say that as students we used to drink a little too much and serenade her to 'hey Jude'.

KatOD · 29/05/2013 06:45

Not my taste, but there you go. How about Lexa/Lexie which is a bit similar (although slightly Superman baddie) or Tori? Could do Estelle or Stella (latter is my DD's name so no nasty comments please!) instead of Estella?

You might find others you like in a list of, er, pushchair brands?

This is a joke right?

Blythe?

Nightowl29 · 29/05/2013 04:00

I quite like Noor: is it Arabic? I have no cultural connection to Arabic-speaking regions, so it wouldn't feel quite right to use a strongly associated name, if that makes sense? I'm also liking Jude/Judith and Estrella...

I don't like Lux or Quinn.
What about Noor?

HappyGoLuckyGirl · 29/05/2013 03:22

Never heard of Lux. Quinn to me is a boys name. Very strong male character in a series of books I read so couldn't envisage it for a girl.

Are they girls names? Are they names at all?

Wrong side of 'unusual' for me.
