I like strong-sounding unfussy names for girls. I love both of these but need more of a shortlist. Any thoughts? Are these two the right side of 'try hard?'

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
miaowmix · 29/05/2013 15:41

I like Coo, Lux, Vida, Harper (dd's middle name), as well as more flowery ones like Estella and Clementine.
What about Vita? Scout?
Probably a good job on balance I'm not having any more children, just cats.
Seriously OP go with your gut, people are so po faced about names.

Coco is such a silly name. Sad

squoosh · 29/05/2013 15:22

Ha! Just googled and it turns out Jo Whiley's daughter is called Coco Lux. She went for the double whammy.

squoosh · 29/05/2013 15:21

I think Jo Whiley has a Lux, it's one of those names like Coco, that became/will become really fashionable in certain circles.

I love Wren, I know it gets slated on here, but I think it's just lovely.

Quinn to me is a surname and a supermarket empire.

MerryMarigold · 29/05/2013 14:59

Estrella sounds quite fussy to me...and not like Quinn or Lux (which I don't like).

I think Claudia is a good, strong name. Perhaps any female version of male name like Olivia, Harriet etc.

Nour is an Arabic aame, as is Zara, but loads of Zara's around who aren't Arabic.

Or a surname. I know a little girl called Bailey.

forgetmenots · 29/05/2013 14:52

Lux is the lead character in Virgin Suicides! Her sisters are Cecilia, Mary, Bonnie and Therese :) I like Quinn, not keen on Estrella (tis a beer, from Barcelona).

How about

Tamsin
Meadow
Harper
Hadley
Aster
Malin
Thea
Maeve
Juno

Littlecherublegs · 29/05/2013 14:20

Never heard of Lux as a name before and thought Quinn was moreof a boys name?

Nethertheless, how about:
Willow
Avery
Kiran
Stella
Rae
Taryn
Luna
Bella
Scout
Riley
Tyler
Kennedy
Eden
Sloane
Raven
Lexi
Teagan

LentilAsAnything · 29/05/2013 13:44

OP, I love Lux, don't bother with a shortlist, just go for Lux.

GotAnyGrapes · 29/05/2013 13:37

Lux is just soap, surely? Quinn is a boys name as far as I know.
But then Beau is also a boys name so twins called Beau and Quinn would surely be boys. It's like calling them Jim and Bob, really.

I have recently heard of two baby girls (both in the US) called Dylan. After the first I thought the parents were just wacky but its clearly a trend.

LentilAsAnything · 29/05/2013 13:29

SingleBelle, probably because of the character Quinn in Glee.

Justfornowitwilldo · 29/05/2013 13:19

She called a girl Beau?

CajaDeLaMemoria · 29/05/2013 13:16

Noooo not Kim.

Everyone will think Kim Kardashian. And that's not a good thing 90% of the time!

sunnyshine · 29/05/2013 13:16

I love lux and Quinn. Why not those actual Names!?

shez29 · 29/05/2013 13:13

Rowan

SingleBelle · 29/05/2013 11:13

What about Kim

I just thought that that is short and simple and unfussy and not used at all. It has a unisex vibe to it. It's definitely outside of the 2013box which might appeal

SingleBelle · 29/05/2013 11:12

Quinn has taken off in America for some reason. I don't get it. It makes me think of supermarkets. Quinnsworth, Superquinn

Lux is better, but a soap. I like Luz. Some of the suggestions on this thread are good. Quinn is dreadful for a girl.

OrangeFootedScrubfowl · 29/05/2013 09:41

Ooh I like Wren.

natandmat · 29/05/2013 09:34

I really like Lux and Quinn!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 29/05/2013 09:24

Hayd(e)n
Greer
Isis

WilmaFingerdoo · 29/05/2013 09:19

Lux is a character out of that depressing little film The Virgin Suicides and it's pretty awful.

Vida
Harper
Berta

Mind you, you could give her the strongest name in the world, hell you could even call her Trevor, she may still pop out covered in glitter and sporting a set of Tinkerbell wings.
