With only one week to go I just can't decide on a name for my baby girl and would appreciate any input I can get. So far my shortlist is looking like this;

Harriet
Verity
Ava
Caitlin
Millie

Would really appreciate some feedback or other suggestions for first names and middle names that go with the above. Thanks

She has an older brother - William Jack

I think it should be Verity or Ava. Millie is too similar to William (he is likely to end up as Will or possibly even Billy, so a bit too rhymy).
Harriet has the William and Harry issue and Caitlyn has the William and Kate issue. Verity and Ava both nice and "go" with William. Ava is one of those names that is percieved as very popular on here, but i think less so in real life. I know a lot more Harriets than Avas. Is it similar to Evie which is definitely popular though.I like Verity, although the length is such that people may want to shorten, but there is no obvious shotening. I know one Verity who has made it to age 13 without a shortening.

It doesn't have the same classic feel to some of your other names, in my opinion.

Verity, then Harriet. Millicent for Millie I prefer. Ava is bland.

Just been told today that Caitlin is a bit "Jeremy Kyle" .....by a friend who works on the show!! Horrified! Is this true? Don't pull any punches.

Hmm, wouldn't say Jeremy Kyle, but KateLynn does sound a bit mispronounced.

Verity is beautiful and underused IMO.

BettyYeti · 26/05/2013 19:19

DD (8) says Ava or Harriet.

fussychica · 26/05/2013 19:19

Lovely list. Love Ava but everyone goes on about the popularity thing. Harriet is great. I love Oleander - Ollie or Andi for short.

CarriMarie · 26/05/2013 19:14

What about Verity Kate ?

williamjacksmum · 25/05/2013 21:48

Thanks everyone, really helps to get perspectives I haven't considered.

I'm 1/2 English 1/2 Irish and Kathleen was my mothers name. She passed away 10 years ago; hence the choice of Caitlin as yes you're right OutragedFromLeeds that's how it's pronounced in Ireland but I don't like the idea of spelling it the American way, or it being mistaken for an American name; although that is how I would pronounce it "Kate Lyn"

Looks like my top two are sailing ahead (Harriet & Verity)

Thanks for the Ava and Milile popularity warnings. DS is only 21 months so I haven't yet got a feel for duplicity at school yet...very helpful!

I think that's right Ellen, but if the OP is American or English she's likely to pronounce it the 'incorrect' anglicised way. That's how I would mispronounce it anyway.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 25/05/2013 18:55

Kate Lyn, I think of as the American anglicisation/mispronunciation of the name, though.

MyNameIsSuz · 25/05/2013 18:41

Ava and Caitlin are lovely. I don't see the problem with Harriet, but... Millie and Willie?

OutragedFromLeeds · 25/05/2013 18:40

I think in England it's almost always Kate-Lyn. In Ireland I think it's Cat-leen or Cath-leen. Caitlin Moran is Cat-lyn though....Confused.

I guess it depends where you are OP?

ChippingInLovesSpring · 25/05/2013 18:32

Matilda - Milly? Then she has a more 'formal' name like her brother?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/05/2013 18:30

Harriet then Verity. Hatty as nn for Harriet.

You might also like Hester.

Harriet Posy
Harriet Daisy
Harriet Clover
Harriet Maeve
Harriet Niamh
Harriet Sylvie
Harriet Prudence
Harriet Constance
Harriet Joy

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 25/05/2013 18:26

I'd pronounce Caitlin as Cat leen, so not too much like Kate.

Harriet is lovely, Verity a bit 'Little Women' for me.

Ava is nice, is it really getting popular, I don't know any?

I know William and Millie twins, short for Amelia.

Madamecastafiore · 25/05/2013 18:06

Love Harriet.

We have one but she doesn't have a nn, only answers to full name.

Verity is a bit serious.

Caitlin I'd be concerned about William and Kate and every third kid in my DS's school is Milly.

JojoMags · 25/05/2013 18:03

Second Harriet nn Hattie. Like Verity and Caitlin too. Ava and Millie are sooo done.

MortifiedAdams · 25/05/2013 16:36

Harriet, with the nn Hattie.

Hummuschocolate · 25/05/2013 16:35

Verity is the loveliest of the list, a great unusual, classy name

Elquota · 24/05/2013 23:18

Millie and Ava both lovely. Also quite like Harriet.

Verity is a little starchy and I'm never sure how to pronounce Caitlin.

MoonHare · 24/05/2013 22:49

Oh I see, didn't read your post properly, with a brother William I would definitely go for Verity.

OutragedFromLeeds · 24/05/2013 22:49

Prince William and his brother Prince Harry

Prince William and his wife Kate.

MoonHare · 24/05/2013 22:48

Definitely Harriet or Verity, two of my personal favourites. I would lean towards Verity I think.

Ava - lots of them and lots of the similar Evie, Ella etc - she would be one of many, but you might not mind that.

I don't know what the William and Harry reference is?
