Hector Ivo Black
Magnus Ivo Black
Otto Hector Black

My absolute ideal, dream name would be Ivo Hector Black, but my partner strongly dislikes Ivo. Sad face.

Other names on the long list, but don't feel quite right are Edgar, Bertram, Cosmo, Wilfred and Albert.

My DSs (11 & 8) are Finn & Louis.

What do you think? Any other suggestions?

Otto is the name of Europe's largest mail order <a class="break-all" href="//company:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otto_GmbH" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">company:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otto_GmbH and, to my ears, sounds ugly (as a name for a lovely boy).

I like Ivo very much, though! Also like Magnus, Quentin, Linus and Barnaby.

squiddle · 24/05/2013 09:23

Your names have the ring of Jilly Cooper!

pygmy · 23/05/2013 23:30

Manoo, even!

I adore Barnaby; it's been a favourite of mine for years. My partner dislikes it though! Rory has also, at times, been my top name, but again, it's not one he agrees on.

Magnoo is a sweet nickname! Magnificent Magnus :)

Odin?

Manoodledo · 23/05/2013 10:30

I have a three-year-old Magnus. Nobody has shortened it, although I often call him Manoo or Magnadoodle!

hatebeak · 23/05/2013 10:06

Otto is the new Arlo. It's nicest off your list but suspect it's going to soar in popularity, if that kind of thing matters to you.

cantbloodywellchoose · 23/05/2013 09:23

I like them all! Magnus is on our short list and has had v good feedback other than from MIL (says it makes her think of Magners cider) and my mum who says it makes her think of icecream, Magnum I assume! Neither of which is sufficient to deter me. We have Hector on our long list (see thread I posted last night). My DS's are Barnaby and Rory, would either of those work for you?

JojoMags · 23/05/2013 09:02

My favourite is Otto. Don't know any round here and goes really well with your other names. I imagine bronzed Germanic healthy outdoors or possibly hippy type Otto. Miles away from the fat banker post!

Dislike Hector, except as a MN. Magnus Ivo has a good ring to it, but goes less well with Finn and Louis.

pygmy · 22/05/2013 23:50

The only problem with Magnus is the lack of nicknames. Not liking the thought of Maggie!

DP said to keep Ivo on the list as he may grow to like it Smile

Ivo and Otto are more unusual than Hector and Magnus I think! I'm not too fussed about the names matching, as there will be a massive age gap between them.
I have a feeling he'll be an Otto.

I love Ivo, shame you can't use that as a first name. Not mad keen on any of the others, but I like Otto best. I think Hector and Magnus are a bit unusual in comparison to your other boys names.

OneFingerSjupesUpTheYoni · 22/05/2013 23:32

Otto sounds nicest (to my ears) next to your boys names already but as many people point out - it's not often you list all your dcs names out and it makes no bones to them when they are older as it's not often you need to tell people your siblings names :)

pygmy · 22/05/2013 23:28

Is Otto really popular now then?

pygmy · 22/05/2013 23:28

Belvedere I love Albert but one of our sons has it as a middle name so am reluctant to use it. Same goes with Arthur. Great names!

Anjou · 22/05/2013 23:23

Love Magnus, hector & Ivo! You've said that Ivor is too similar to DH's, what about Ivar? It's Scandinavian and pronounced 'Eeevar'. I love that it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/05/2013 19:34

Hector is ace but I don't like Ivo.

Decoy · 22/05/2013 19:27

Hector Ivo, then Magnus Ivo (or Hector Magnus / Magnus Hector?)

Otto has sprung to popularity recently, but am not keen.

Love Albert of your other ideas.

apatchylass · 22/05/2013 19:20

I love Otto and like Magnus. Not so keen on Hector because as a verb it has a very negative meaning.
Ivo is also lovely.
Adore Wilfred too.

OrangeFootedScrubfowl · 22/05/2013 19:09

I think Otto goes best with your other names. It fits. :)

Smartiepants79 · 22/05/2013 19:08

They all remind me of middle-aged banker, sorry!
Maximilian? Angus?

Belvedere · 22/05/2013 19:07

Love all your names. Ivo is lovely but like you I'm not allowed it. Otto is fab but I wasted that on the cat.
Hmm
Looks like we are leaning toward Albert or Bertie as that's the only one we can compromise on.
Why's it so hard?!

Bowlersarm · 22/05/2013 19:07

Edmund
Xander
Xavier
Jonah
Crispin
Marcus

Any good?

I like Hector and Otto from your list. Not so keen on Magnus.

pygmy · 22/05/2013 19:07

He is fed up with my constant name talk and has said I can call him what I want! Wouldn't feel right choosing a name he's not keen on. Or maybe I'm being too nice?!!
