Any thoughts on this name? How would you pronounce it? She would have Cleo as a nickname..

Thought it was made up too - a mash up of Leonie and Cleo. I'd pronounce it like a combination of the two. I much prefer the two individual names to Cleonie.

My DD has a Gaelic name and we're not Irish.

Hmm, yes, good point about the pronunciation changing! Maybe will have to steer clear. we're really struggling with girls names, just can't seem to decide on one, and thought I'd cracked it, but maybe not!

Cliodhna is lovely! Don't really feel we can go for such a gaelic name though, not being Irish and living in the UK (though our surname is Irish)

No, but I would think it was Clee-own. I know Phoebe has that ending, but is more well known and the oe makes it obviously Greek.

Cleonie is absolutely not an Irish name.

Clíodhna is and it's a much nicer name in my (admittedly Irish) opinion.

Thanks guys! Having looked into it further, it seems like the "ie" ending is an Irish version of the Greek name Cleone - which I also like. Hmmm....would you still think it looked made up if you saw "Cleone"?

I immediately thought it was made up from Cleo and Leonie! [I think most people will]. I like it too, but prefer Cleo. She may also be constantly called Leonie as it is similar but more well known. My dd is frequently called Melissa because it sounds like her name, but is NOT her name.

Leonie is lovely, Cleo is lovely, (crumpet - Clio was on my girl list too! But DH nixed it due to the stupid Renault car)... But to me Cleonie sounds like a made up name, even if it actually isn't.

It's a Greek name, so it's definitely not made up - means famous, not a great meaning, but wouldn't be picking it for that reason.

It's not one I've ever heard of before - looks like a mash up of Cleo and Leonie, rather than a name that stands on its own. Cleo is nice - I had Clio on my short list.
