I'm expecting my first baby in November. I'm going to keep the sex a surprise so need to have boys and girls names in the bag. There are several girls names I like, but I'm not keen on boys names so I'm struggling. Here's my list, can you rate or help me add to it?

Tom
Ross
Russ
Alexei
Toby

I've also always liked the name Guy but just not sure I could go through with it...

It's worth adding that baby will have some German heritage including a very German surname.

Instead of Ross what about Russ? Russell.
Huw?

Festen · 18/05/2013 13:43

Oooh, thanks to you lot Ben, Stefan, Lawrence and Leo are going on the list. Ben is a great name but I've had three past boyfriends called Ben, so if I can put those associations to one side....!!

Lawrence is also great, a bit posh for where we live though (South Yorkshire) so I would have to think about that carefully. Stefan is a new idea so I'll peruse that for a while. Leo is cool too.

I'll update after I've had the first name conversation with DP. No doubt he'll say it's too early for him to think about it! Grin

i like all but Russ, which sounds like a dog. Rafe or Joshua for other suggestions. Have come across 2 baby Joshuas with an English and German parent. Apparently it works well in both languages!

How about Daniel, James or Matthew ?

StrangeGlue · 17/05/2013 09:18

Matthew or Carl?

DoodleAlley · 17/05/2013 09:18

If dd had been a boy she would have been Eli or Elijah

Wincher · 17/05/2013 09:13

I like your taste in names. Some of my favourites (most of which have been vetoed by DH) are:

Rory
James
Toby
Tom
Ross
Leo
Giles
Lawrence

So I'm reading your list with interest for inspiration for DS2! In fact DS1's name is in the list above, and the name we're probably going to use for DS2, but I'm not 100% convinced on it.

I have a Tom - all through my pregnancy I tried to think of something a bit less traditional as I was worried the name was too popular, but couldn't think of anything I liked better. When he was born he just was a Tom! It's a good solid name, and actually we have encountered very few other Toms in his age group so my worries were unfounded.

Chewbecca · 15/05/2013 20:48

I have a Toby so I like your style. He's 9 now but I still love the name and he's a charming, handsome boy!

On my shortlist (but never got serious consideration) was Leo, Guy and Alexander/Alistair Liked Rory too.

MortifiedAdams · 15/05/2013 20:44

What about Travis?

apatchylass · 15/05/2013 20:43

I love Tom. Great name. Or if you want something more Germanic, how about:
Otto
Matthias
Sacha
Reiner
Tobias
Hendrik
Andreas

Scruffey · 15/05/2013 20:28

Max
Matthew

Tubemole1 · 15/05/2013 20:25

Kurt
Peter
Levi
Bobby

Festen · 15/05/2013 20:20

Ooh, thanks for the suggestions so far.

I love Rory! But my brother's name is Ruarigh Smile

I like Gus but possibly because a big Scottish bloke called Gus once rescued me from a river when I was 8. I wrote him a poem. True story.

Tom keeps coming to the front of my mind and I think it would go down well with DP. It would also go well with surname. It's strange bcause my favourite girls names are less traditional!
