So, which year's names are least appealing to parents naming in 2013

Is it names that are 50 years old? Or is it less than that? some people were listing names that they couldn't imagine coming back, like Linda and Janet. I don't really dislike those. Jane is nice. Linda is pretty I think.

I think names I'd be really surprised to hear would be Suzanne and Nicola, Martin, Stephen.

Some old fashioned names. Rupert, Rudoplh, Olive, Una. Also, names like, Dwayne (know a baby Dwayne- called DW for short, I like his nickname!), Keith, Steve. Tracy?

Startail · 08/06/2013 08:56

You can't call a child Wayne, simply because Wayne was always the naughtiest boy on the class.

I always think that way out Wayne. How could name a precious newborn Wayne?

Came across a newborn named Lisa. I was surprised how surprised I was that a baby could be called such a 60s/70s name.

hellokitty123 · 06/06/2013 14:16

I like Valerie a lot. And I know a little Paulina - like that too!

Christabel3 · 05/06/2013 22:52

oh dear at giving your son your name when you're called Neil. It's just so Banal. There was a guy on come dine with me recently and the narrator was taking the piss because his name was Martin and he'd seen fit to pass that mediocrity on to another generation in the form of Martin junior. It was funny!

LynetteScavo · 05/06/2013 22:27

I used to live next door to "Neil" and "Little Neil." Hmm

5madthings · 05/06/2013 21:48

My ds2 has a friend called Neil!

And I know two betnards, one is about 6? The other is a toddler.

wizzler · 05/06/2013 21:45

I have never met a Gordon under 60!
I love Valerie but it does not work with my surname
I am Shock that anyone would call a baby Brian

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 05/06/2013 20:18

I have a Graham, Patricia, Jason, Valerie, Frank, Esther and Simon in my infant school.

There're coming back!!!! Grin

Yika · 05/06/2013 20:17

I love some of these names like Claire, Nicola, Julie, Stephen, David, Robert, Ian, and they don't sound dated to me. Perhaps because they are of my generation and I know many wonderful people that I associate them with. Nigel, Wendy and Norman are a different matter. Also Maureen, jean, Derek, Barry and the like. A colleague has an 11-year old called Brian which makes me wince.

SleepyCatOnTheMat · 05/06/2013 20:08

Phoebe is very common now, Chottie, it's top 30 or 40.

Chottie · 05/06/2013 19:34

I know of a baby Ray and Ronnie and also a Phoebe

SleepyCatOnTheMat · 05/06/2013 18:42

A name that has fallen out of a favour but I've always secretly quite liked is Donna. Don't think that's coming back anytime soon. I'm surprised how far Gemma has fallen down the charts; I mean, I went to school with loads of Gemmas but when you consider it objectively it's a nice name (and Emma has retained its popularity so why not Gemma?).

Keith is a truly terrrible name, but I once went out with a Keith and he was very well-endowed so I can't help but smile when I hear it Grin

Meringue33 · 05/06/2013 16:28

When I was at high school, Lyn and Leanne were the most popular girls names. There were infinite spelling variations of each - used to drive the teachers bonkers.

Meringue33 · 05/06/2013 16:25

So many lovely classic names in my grandparents generation. George, Sam, Edward, Mary, Lily, Jennie.

My parents and my own generation - not so much.

GotAnyGrapes · 05/06/2013 12:59

I love Audrey, if DS2had been a girl he would have been Audrey. I also love Jean, nn Jeanie but DH vetoed it rather strongly.
My girls are Catherine and Elizabeth. Not sure they've ever been either fashionable or unfashionable. I quite like that.

itsnothingoriginal · 05/06/2013 12:51

I like Valerie but not Val for short Shock

The most horrendous name imo is Keith which I hope and pray never comes back (sorry to offend any Keith's who may be reading this)

I'm sure all the names listed above will surface again at some point unless we start inventing more new ones - I'm not including 'interesting' spellings of existing names in that Hmm

HoneyandRum · 05/06/2013 12:43

I love Gloria and I like Audrey and Valerie. I know a 7 yr old Slyvie. I also know a teenage Susan who was named after her Grandma - that is very unusual in her age group. Ray made a comeback in the US a few years ago, I like it. I also met a little boy called Ronnie in Bosnia whose parents got his name from an English tourist! So multi-culturalism works in all directions.

I think after all these very sweet cutesy names recently there will be a turn to stronger sounding ones.

Assajjventress · 05/06/2013 09:39

Absolutely love Valerie but had boys it't due for a revival

AThingInYourLife · 05/06/2013 07:40

I love Vera and Audrey.

To my ears Deirdre is more like Niamh or Maeve, very 70s.

meditrina · 05/06/2013 07:17

I don't think Audrey, Gail, Deirdre, or Vera will make a comeback whilst they're still so strongly associated with Corrie. Ditto Ken and Kevin.

Gingerandproud · 05/06/2013 07:01

I met a toddler Neil in costa. He was named after his grandad
