What names have you heard recently to make you stop in your tracks and wonder if the parents are a bit mad?

My most recent favourite is... Flossy, for a girl.
Made worse because my dads pet name for me is Flossy, or Floss. So to hear it as an ACTUAL name just makes me gawp.

Worst boys name - Banjo.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Moominsarehippos · 10/05/2013 16:05

I can't remember the last time I met anyone called John or Matthew.

Chipschipschips · 10/05/2013 16:04

wot iz sarky??

Lol @ Sequin

Moominsarehippos · 10/05/2013 16:02

I heard a mum yelling for little Taizer (don't know about spelling but it was pronounced tay-zer) a while ago. (I said buzzzzzzz very quietly to myself).

usualsuspect · 10/05/2013 16:02

Don't be so bloody stupid, child abuse my arse.

I wasn't agreeing with you. I was being sarky.

Ozfrazror · 10/05/2013 16:01

Not exactly an unheard of name but I couldn't help being a bit surprised to be introduced to a baby boy at a mums and tots group a while ago called?

Eric!!

LittleAbruzzenBear · 10/05/2013 15:58

Lots recently, none of my friends/family I hasten to add! Just out and about, children seem to be named after slebs or slebs children. The worst name I have heard, ever, was a two year old who had the misfortune to be named Sylar after the villain in Heroes (yes the one who cuts peoples heads open) because his DPs liked him.

lambbone · 10/05/2013 15:58

Whatever's wrong with Ian and Alan? Is it just that the fashionable name cycle is about 75 years, and Ians and Alans are all about 50? When I'm an old lady I confidently expect to hear my own name been called out to tiny tots in the street - but you never hear it now.

As for weird names I've heard - my former neighbour had a DS called Tomsk. Yes, like the Womble.

I'm not a big fam of damn silly names, but do you know I rather like Sequin? It has a pleasing sound. But only if she doesn't have a brother called Tarquin.

Chipschipschips · 10/05/2013 15:57

usualsuspect Exactly, it's a form of child abuse. Just give it a normal name, FFS. You're not special and neither is your child.

Greydog · 10/05/2013 15:52

Some ladies in the Post Office cooing over a new baby - they asked mum what the babe was called - "Sky Princess" came the reply. There was silence after that announcement!

KittenofDoom · 10/05/2013 15:48

Donkeys Back in the 80s there used to be a footballer called Forbes Phillipson-Masters. Unusually posh-sounding name for a footballer then.

usualsuspect · 10/05/2013 15:42

How dare people choose names they like.

Chipschipschips · 10/05/2013 15:39

What's wrong with people? It's like they consider their kids to be accessories that they can customise to make themselves seem more interesting.

NiniLegsInTheAir · 10/05/2013 15:39

Wynter. Who was born in April. Hmm

And yes, Khaleesi is from Game of Thrones.

BlueChampagne · 10/05/2013 15:37

You may not like Ptolemy (and I wouldn't use it either) but it has got a LONG history!

usualsuspect · 10/05/2013 15:28

I love some of the names on this thread.

RedJeans · 10/05/2013 15:21

Khaleesi is a Game of Thrones reference I think!

Ambridge · 10/05/2013 14:58

Still pmsl at Miracle-Savoy. Sounds like a prize-winning cabbage.

PipkinsPal · 10/05/2013 14:55

I also know of a Missy. Unfortunately a colleague's ginger cat has the same name too. Some names are cute when kids are small but can you imagine your Doctor calling over the tannoy Missy xxxx and an 82 years old hobbles into his room?

jinglejanglebangles · 10/05/2013 14:52

...oh and also heard Astera for a girl which was quite sweet

SouthernComforts · 10/05/2013 14:51

Clay. Not a nn. Just clay

PipkinsPal · 10/05/2013 14:51

Jagger - I kid you not.

jinglejanglebangles · 10/05/2013 14:50

I have heard the name 'Prince' and 'Anakin' (Skywalker - obvious StarWars fans!)

sparkle12mar08 · 10/05/2013 14:50

Oh and a Cruz and a Jaxxon. Both white.

Miggsie · 10/05/2013 14:48

Ptolemy

I mean, why????????

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 10/05/2013 14:45
