How popular is tabitha?

Was considering Tabitha as a name but just wondering if it was becoming quite common?

I grew up being 1 of 6 ............ In each class and hated it and so have always know that I didn't want my children having a common name. Problem is every time I love a name, a year or so later it becomes the most common name used!!!

So just wondering how many little ones you know with this name (I don't have kids already so no access to nurseries etc to hear names)

My friend just had one a few weeks ago. I think it's lovely but can't imagine it will be so popular there will be multiples in a school class or year group

I don't know any but I love this name dh isn't keen so I never got to use it :(

Ulysses · 12/05/2013 17:41

My daughter's middle name is Tabitha, but it would have been my first choice (grr DH). In fact, its been used in my family for generations, I have aunts, great aunts and a great granny Tabitha and numerous 2nd cousins of various ages. I haven't heard of it in real life outwith our family circle though.

I know of 4 under 6.

Leeds2 · 11/05/2013 21:04

I know one, who is 15 (years).

lucybrad · 11/05/2013 19:57

Ummm I have a Xanthe and I plan on having a Tabitha in September too.

Littlehousesomewhere · 10/05/2013 13:25

I have never met one.

singaporeswing · 10/05/2013 12:19

I know of 4 Tabitha's under 6 and 1 Talitha ever. She's 30 and I think it's a gorgeous & unusual alternative. It's on my list for future daughter names!

Ezza1 · 10/05/2013 12:10

It suits my cat.

MissTweed · 10/05/2013 10:28

Well this (my) post has had a surprisingly positive outcome and Tabitha is now a serious contender , thanks guys

I know one. We are SW, rural.

zingally · 09/05/2013 20:27

Teacher in the midlands - I've never met one. I don't think there's one in my whole school (very white, middle class place)

HorryIsUpduffed · 09/05/2013 16:53

I don't know any - and I know a lot of children through two toddler groups and one school, plus NCT. I know one Tabatha, but she lives hundreds of miles away.

I'm seriously considering Tabitha nn Kitty Grin

Rhubarbgarden · 08/05/2013 20:51

I went to school with one - she'll be in her thirties now. I've never met another. Lovely name.

CityGal29 · 08/05/2013 20:29

I know none and know lots and lots or children through work and my children.

Beamur · 08/05/2013 19:24

I know one - age about 5.

MrsEricBana · 08/05/2013 19:04

Can only think of one here - def not common. Having said that we chose a pretty and not especially common name and now every other 10yr old is called it :-/

Haberdashery · 08/05/2013 19:02

I have one, aged six. We have met two others, one also six and one who must be about four now.

Astley · 08/05/2013 18:55

I love it but I don't know any, and I know a lot of under 6's!

ELR · 08/05/2013 18:31

I love Tabitha, I don't know any. My best friend was called Tabitha when I was about 8!

MissTweed · 08/05/2013 18:15

Thanks guys.... I think maybe my idea of name popularity has been skewed abit by MN!! According to MN all little girls should be called xanthe!! Lol

I have one! She's 2. Never come across another. It will never be common, too many people hate it!!! Just take a look at the threads on here, it's a marmite name.

TenthMuse · 08/05/2013 17:28

I'm a teacher (North London) and have never come across one. I do know of one vaguely (a friend of a friend's daughter) but I think it's one of those names that's disproportionately popular on Mumsnet. Think it's fairly well used but not hugely popular in real life.

I love it, by the way!

Melissakitkat · 08/05/2013 10:38

My dd (6) is called Tabitha. We know one other Tabitha so not immensely popular. X

SleepyCatOnTheMat · 08/05/2013 10:36

Tabitha was somewhere between #100 and #200 on 2011's baby name chart if I remember correctly (you can download this as a spreadsheet from the National Statistics website), so it's not overly popular but not out there either i.e. perfect, if you ask me. My DS's name was something like #75 the year he was born and we've never come across another in playgroups/at nursery etc.
