What do you think? It would go well with DD1's name, and suits our background (Dutch/Scandinavian) but does it work in English?

Mn likely to be Christina.

The Scandinavian way of saying this is gorgeous the uk for me makes it sound dull. How about Katrina instead? guves a far more similar pronunciation ti the Scandinavian name, and works well with Christine for mn.

I would never think of latrine. Katrine is very similar to the French pronunciation of Catherine. I prefer Katrina but not with Christina - actually I don't think Katrine goes particularly well with Christina anyway.

Katrine Cristina too similar.

How about Katrine/a Rose/ Grace / May/ June/ Ruth/Jane. Any other name works with Katrina apart from Cristina.

I would say latrine isn't a concern - I'm 22 and I would guess the majority of my peers wouldn't make that connection/know what a latrine is. It's certainly not in my immediate vocab.

Katrine is a nice name. How about Christine?
I'm not sure about katrine Christina though.

It is very lovely however you need to remember that no-one in the UK is going to pronounce is as wonderfully as the Scandinavians. It certainly won't sound the same Sad

I like it, and wouldn't have immediately thought of latrine, and would be surprised if primary school kids would have either!

I think I prefer the C spelling though - looks somehow softer.

I like it spelled Catrin, which would avoid the latrine connection.

Not sure I'd pair it with Christina though (even with K initial) - too similar, like Lisa Louisa or Betty Bethany.

My first thought was also Latrine, sorry!

If you're prounouncing the "e", I'd spell it Katrina. If not, then Katrin would be better, IMO.

I also agree that Christina doesn't really flow well as a middle name, as too rhymy Sad

I think "Katrine/Latrine" is an issue. K and L are right next to each other on a QWERTY keyboard too.

Call her Katrin, or Katrina. But not Katrine.

Thanks all for the feedback. Maybe the latrine connection is a non-issue.

I find it difficult to 'write' the pronunciation in English iyswim, but it is the emphasis in the second syllable, which has a short sound. I don't think I am making any sense actually.

Everyone please watch Borgen as that's where I got it from (as squoosh suspected!) ...

My immediate thought was to spell it Katrin if that's your preferred pronunciation (and it would be mine). But latrine is a barely used word now so I wouldn't be very bothered.

I've never ever heard a primary age child use the word 'latrine' either.

Ka-trin is nice. Ka-treen is nice too, but is dicey for reasons stated. It's up to you whether that bothers you or not. x

I went school with a Welsh Catrin, so Kathrine/Katrin sound perfectly natural to me.
