Not even pregnant so can't blame hormones but I love Spike. Discuss!!

Nothing to discuss - don't do it to him!

KittieCat · 22/04/2013 07:13

Strangely I know one couple with a Spike well and I know of another.

Both debated the name and if you love it, do it. Clearly it isn't to everyone's taste but nor was our DS's name.

If you're really unsure could he be called something else but given the nn Spike?

KittieCat · 22/04/2013 07:25

Sorry, just seen this is hypothetical...

dyslexicdespot · 22/04/2013 07:41

Spike is a great name! However, be forewarned that he grow up to be a kick ass vampire with a slayer girlfriend.

dyslexicdespot · 22/04/2013 07:42

...might grow up...

openerofjars · 22/04/2013 07:47

Thing is, it's more of a nickname, really, isn't it? Spike Milligan was really a Terence and Spike in Buffy got his nn from doing unspeakable things with a spike (I think, been a while).

We really fancied Bear if DD had been a boy, but you kind of have to earn a name like that, just in case the child turns out very differently.

You could end up with a very non spiky Spike!

Labootin · 22/04/2013 07:49

Prefer Thomas or Jerry.

Branleuse · 22/04/2013 08:01

I LOVE IT

cherrycherry41 · 22/04/2013 08:04

If you are naming a dog, great name!

Spero · 22/04/2013 08:04

It's a nickname. It's too much about your expectations and wishes for your child. Look at Zowie Bowie, now Duncan Jones.

Give him a 'proper' name and see if he grows into Spike as family nickname.

cupcake78 · 22/04/2013 08:05

Love it

DonDrapersAltrEgoBigglesDraper · 22/04/2013 09:24

There's a little one at a toddler group that we go to called Spike.

There is something deeply incongruous about a legging'd-up, nappy wearing Spike, weaving his way through a sandpit. Grin He will probs grow into the name.

hellohellohihi · 22/04/2013 18:25

I love woody too dog names are far better than real boy names IMO

thistlelicker · 22/04/2013 18:35

Really????? Ok

gottogetup · 23/04/2013 07:36

LOVE. One of my best friends is called Spike...it's an awesome name and just accentuates how awesome he is. no one has ever batted an eyelid at his name, its just cool.

Theironfistofarkus · 23/04/2013 07:42

Sounds a bit, well, spikey. I wouldn't do it and I love unusual names. If the baby came out with piercings and a purple Mohican, however, I might be forced to reconsider.

sparkle12mar08 · 23/04/2013 09:44

But it's not a name, it's a nick name, and a non-specific one at that. You could call him Spike on a day to day basis and give him a any proper name you like on the birth certificate.

OneFingerSjupesUpTheYoni · 23/04/2013 10:00

Rugrats dog!

thermalsinapril · 23/04/2013 10:53

I don't like it. It's, er, too spiky.

recall · 23/04/2013 10:56

I know a Spike in RL, its just normal now, he's just Spike Smile

Makes me think of Elvis Costello.

That's a good think, btw.

YouDontWinFriendsWithSalad · 23/04/2013 16:14

I love it. I know a grown up Spike, it's not his nickname.
