Not for me. Sounds very dated, and not ready to be dusted off again yet! See it as similar to Gary/Lee/Wayne/Darren - very 70's. (I see it as 'before my time', and I was born in 1980). Am sure all of these names will be reassessed at some point, just not quite yet.

I know one, who's in his late 30s.

MerryMarigold · 18/04/2013 09:44

[Grin], yes add Gary and Wayne and you have half my class (I was born in 73). But it is kind of retro and a bit cooler than Gary or Wayne, I reckon. Depends if you live in a totally hip area, I would go for it. If you live in a slightly dodgy part of town, then don't.

harleyd · 18/04/2013 09:42

i have a dean. i am not from a council estate. he is not naughty Hmm
dont know anyone else with that name

threepiecesuite · 18/04/2013 09:41

Very dated.
Love Sean though (different sound, I know)

Misfit13 · 18/04/2013 09:38

Well, debates about whether people on council estates are common aside,
Dean was a common name on mine. Posh kids had different names to us, they had hilarious sounding names like Charlie or Henry or Jonothan!
Me, I like Dean, but I wouldn't call my son it - as I'd then feel obliged to have another one and name him after my other brother, Wayne ;-)

IEatCakeInBed · 17/04/2013 23:49

I am torn, on one hand is James Dean, on the other is Dean Dean the Big Baked Bean. So, overall it's a no, sorry.

skyebluesapphire · 17/04/2013 23:34

DD is 5yo and there is a Dean in her class. I know of two other Dean's, aged 30 and 22.

IAmJacksRagingBileDuct · 17/04/2013 23:28

I think its a great name, I only know one Dean he's in his 20s and is a really nice bloke.

DH's name has been mentioned up thread as being awful, I like his too!

snowmummy · 17/04/2013 23:23

I like it. Its about ready for a comeback. Or you could go with Finley/ Oscar, Ethan :/. I know what I'd rather.

usualsuspect · 17/04/2013 23:04

You think.people who live on council estates are common?

pigletpower · 17/04/2013 23:01

Council estate-common.Why the WTF?

CPtart · 17/04/2013 20:02

squoosh · 17/04/2013 19:46

There was a cute guy on Masterchef a few years ago called Dean. He should have won!

TheCatIsUpTheDuff · 17/04/2013 17:16

The school bully (mid-80's) was called Dean.

usualsuspect · 17/04/2013 15:24

Council estate? Wtf?

StephaniePowers · 17/04/2013 11:27

I can help but say it in my head with an estuary twang.
Other than that it's fine, it just looks a bit unbalanced as a word.

tactix · 17/04/2013 11:21

I like it - about time for a comeback Smile

squoosh · 16/04/2013 23:42

Someone started a thread saying that all names suggested on this forum were 'daft' and ridiculous. Someone countered by saying they'd prefer 'daft' to ordinary names such as James, Henry, Oliver etc.

Thread was deleted to save the feelings of James, Henry, Oliver and their parents.

Bit odd seeing as MN is like the dragon's lair of baby naming, enter at your peril. Isn't that part of the fun though, the forthright opinions?
