Any ideas?
I don't mind if the connection is a little tenuous...

I had an Auntie Nellie and she was an Ellen really plus she was lovely.

I love Nella. Fenella is also very pretty, and Penelope is awesome.

I think Helena is beautiful too, as is Helene (which I think I prefer pronounced he-LAY-nay, though he-LAYN and HE-luh-nay are pretty too).

How about:

Elaine
Elena
Eleni?

Puddlelane · 13/04/2013 18:45

Boo I could have been a Nell with my name. I love that name.

AnythingNotEverything · 13/04/2013 18:41

I think it's much prettier if you spell it Elinor rather than Eleanor.

HorryIsUpduffed · 13/04/2013 18:36

I agree that it could be any name starting with stressed El- or Hel- of which my favourite is currently Helena (HELL-uh-nuh, not hell-AY-nuh).

Or Penelope at a push.

LagomOchLyckaSwede · 13/04/2013 18:31

Janelle.

Annella.

But I like Nell. Short, sweet but also works for a grown woman.

MortifiedAdams · 13/04/2013 18:28

Just have Nell.

LagomOchLyckaSwede · 13/04/2013 18:27

Petronella....don't know if you want to name a baby that!

LagomOchLyckaSwede · 13/04/2013 18:25

IceCubes · 13/04/2013 18:24

Penelope, Danielle, Ellen... I love Nell!

BOF · 13/04/2013 18:21

Yes, I think the Elizabeth one is a bit tenuous really; there are probably half a dozen diminutives you would think of first: Beth, Betty, Betsy, Lizzy etc.

thermalsinapril · 13/04/2013 18:08

Eleanor and Helen emphasise the first syllable. Mine HEL-en, mine ELL-ea-nor.

With Elizabeth the emphasis is on the second syllable, so I don't think the "mine" thing works as you wouldn't say "mine ELL-izabeth".

wigglesrock · 13/04/2013 17:37

I always associate with Elizabeth too, never Helen Blush

Nutella (kidding) Grin

Round here it's generally short for Fenella.

Iseeall · 13/04/2013 15:41

Eleanora

FriggFRIGG · 13/04/2013 15:40

And Nella...

BOF · 13/04/2013 15:40

That is interesting. It makes me wonder though why there's no such name as Rell. In Liverpool, we all say "Our 'Elen" or "Our Elizabeth" Grin

FriggFRIGG · 13/04/2013 15:37

Fenella is my favourite so far...

UniqueAndAmazing · 13/04/2013 15:34

You know, Outraged, I wanted to say Elizabeth too , but thought it was far too tenuous!

That's very interesting Outraged...

Elizabeth.

The connection is quite tenuous, but Nell is short for Eleanor/Helen based on 'mine Eleanor', so also works for 'mine Elizabeth' or any name starting with 'El' really.
