Just for fun, because my sister is due any day now!

I suggested Crucifissa Grin but I can't think of any normal ones.

Egg - it worked for Andew Lincoln in This Life!!!

Roc - Catalan boy's name, I love it! (rock-stone-easter... weakest link??)

Mona - Easter cake in Catalonia. Also a big chocolate 'house' that godparents give their godchildren.

Veronica. According to legend she wiped the face of Jesus. Think I have got that right!

alexpolismum · 30/03/2013 12:07

I really don't understand why you've suggested Ishtar as an Easter themed name aufaniae.

Ishtar is a Sumero-Babylonian goddess of fertility and war. It is not known today exactly at what time of the year a festival might have been held in her honour.

The word anastasis, from which the name comes, is a central idea of Christian faith and its meaning obviously has a huge significance because the whole point of Christianity (most versions of it) is the idea of salvation through Jesus Christ and eternal life. In the Christian context (which gave rise to the name) it means literally resurrection of the body from the dead, coming to life again by the grace of God, and not some sort of rebirth that could be loosely interpreted as a change of heart, reincarnation in the Hindu sense, etc.

Agnes

Wikipedia says its "a female given name, which derives from the Greek name Ἁγνὴ hagnē, meaning "pure" or "holy". The Latinized form of the Greek name is Hagnes, the feminine form of Αγνός Hagnos, meaning "chaste" or "sacred". The name passed to Italian as Agnese, to Portuguese as Inês, and to Spanish, as Inés."

Assumpta?

Speaking of the name Jesus. FIL is an academic, with lots of overseas students. He once found a note on his door that said 'Jesus, Mohammed and Caesar came to see you'. Probably outed myself there!

Anastasia is a Greek word meaning resurrection that travelled to Russia as a name via the Orthodox Church. 'Ana' is a Greek prefix denoting increase or 'rising from'.

peppabacon · 26/03/2013 20:10
