Last ditch desperate attempt to name my 2 week old daughter. Please help...

I cannot decide my daughters name, and you would not believe the pressure this is putting me under! Nothing seems to fit her and I am scared I'm going to have to just go with something I'm not entirely happy with just for the sake of choosing. I seem to find fault in every name I come up with- too popular, too bland, not good with surname, a friend has already used it etc.

To give some examples of the types of names I like:
Ellis- doesn't really suit her
Ruby- pretty popular, bit bland?
Ava- v v popular, don't want her to be one of five in get class
Honor- is this cool or frumpy?? Is it an attractive name or hard to live up to?
Reese?

I also like a name my friends daughter is called but am afraid it will piss her off if I use it and it feels like her name if you see what I mean.

I don't want too cute and girly but I do want cool, attractive and maybe a wee bit different.

Any suggestions??

Take "Baby no-name" and turn it into a name/story to tell her when she's older about how she was named - Noelle? Or other "no" name?

Wow, what a lot of replies in a short space of time! thank you. A couple of things- yes am starting to get a bit stressed about this as I get constant messages from people wanting to know her name, people in every shop I go into asking me, midwives, health visitors, family, friends and folk referring to her as "baby no name" which in my post natal over sensitive hormonal state is not nice to hear.

One of her middle names will be Iris, so that is already used. I actually really like boyish names for girls and I know Ellis is used as a girls name- I had no idea Elliot was though, I'm not so keen on that though. The more feminine alternative to Ellis I thought of is Elise but dp not keen on this... I love Taylor, but dp thinks its tacky. Also like Lola, dp doesn't- notice a theme emerging here? Both like Sofia but I reall dont like Sophie and feel it would inevitably be shortened to this- no offence to anyone called sophie btw (sorry).

I cant decide if i think Honor is pretty and stylish or too old fashioned.

Clemency ( Clemmie).
I love Honor though.

PrincessOfChina · 21/03/2013 16:47

Are you American? Why would you spell it Honor and not Honour? I quite like it otherwise.

Elliot
Harper
Seren
Romilly
Aurelia
Hope

CheeseStrawWars · 21/03/2013 16:42

Hate Honor - sounds like "on her". Also honour killing associations. Honour is over-rated.

Constance, Grace, Felicity, Verity, Hope, Blythe, Faith are much nicer 'virtue' names, imo.

RooneyMara · 21/03/2013 16:36

what's your favourite book? piece of music...childhood story...

think back to the nmaes of characters, authors, composers.

something must stand out.

good luck, and dont worry, give her a couple of middle names and you can call her those if the main first name doesn't work out ;-)

enormouse · 21/03/2013 16:03

If DS had been a girl we shortlisted, Evelyn, Ava, Esther and Renee. Esther and Renee are family names on DPs side. I think Honor and Ava off your list are lovely, op.

InkleWinkle · 21/03/2013 16:02

Alexa?

flossy101 · 21/03/2013 16:00

Love Honor and don't know anyone with this name.

What's your friends dds name?
How often do you see her?
Unless it was a close friend I.e see weekly I wouldn't be put off

FaresPlease · 21/03/2013 15:59

Oooh, loving Clementine too. You'd need to be brave to pick it, but it's so pretty!

Nia
Rhowanne/Rowann
Trudy/Tru

FaresPlease · 21/03/2013 15:56

Honor is gorgeous - quite unusual, but it will become her own. We have a Madeleine, and while people found it unusual to start with, it soon just became 'her' (still get all manner of strange spellings though! - but I'm not all precious about it and it doesn't bother me).

Also love Connie and Maggie from among the suggestions above. Elliot is lovely but I think she'd just get called Ellie.

whatsleep · 21/03/2013 15:55

If you like Ava but find it to be too popular how about Eva instead. Or make it a double barrelled name I.e Ava-marie?
