I cannot decide my daughters name, and you would not believe the pressure this is putting me under! Nothing seems to fit her and I am scared I'm going to have to just go with something I'm not entirely happy with just for the sake of choosing. I seem to find fault in every name I come up with- too popular, too bland, not good with surname, a friend has already used it etc.

To give some examples of the types of names I like:
Ellis- doesn't really suit her
Ruby- pretty popular, bit bland?
Ava- v v popular, don't want her to be one of five in get class
Honor- is this cool or frumpy?? Is it an attractive name or hard to live up to?
Reese?

I also like a name my friends daughter is called but am afraid it will piss her off if I use it and it feels like her name if you see what I mean.

I don't want too cute and girly but I do want cool, attractive and maybe a wee bit different.

Any suggestions??

I like Dylan is was Nicole Kiddmans charater in Charlies Angels film very cute and tomboyish name. If you like it and it suits het use it.

Another name idea is Charlotte shortened to Charlie.

Reene

Jackson/Jackline/Jac

ZolaBuddleia · 22/03/2013 14:12

Isn't it Cydney, as in Cyd Charisse?

Honor, Stella, Iris and Miriam are all on my mythical DD list...

curiousgeorgie · 22/03/2013 14:06

I think Dylan is lovely. Not too popular but a really great name. Love it for a girl!

NowPlayingZone · 22/03/2013 13:25

*should

NowPlayingZone · 22/03/2013 13:25

haveapear I think you've cracked it!

Given everything you've said op, I think your daughter shield be called sidnie/Sydney Grin

haveapear · 22/03/2013 13:12

Oh another one I've come across is sidnie for a girl - that may not be how you spell it .

haveapear · 22/03/2013 13:11

I like honor but wonder if the name you prefer already used by a friend would be your first choice. Friendships come and go you may not even know her in a few years. Would it be worth asking whether she minded?

It's a really hard choice but once you have chosen it will be fine.

I have an Elspeth btw pressured by Dh and I wasn't completely convinced but love it now. She is known as Elsie though :)

Another one I haven't seen suggested Georgina, Georgia or georgie.

goingdownhill · 22/03/2013 12:56

We are completely working class, DH is Army and I am a SAHM. Our current posting is in an area that could only be described as deprived. Honor goes to nursery and in honesty her name does stand out as she is in a class of unique spellings, surnames as first names and the very popular names that you hear everywhere. It does not bother me at all. We have had no negative comments though I know I have friends that do not like her name at all.

I think if you truly love a name you don't care a bit what other people think. If you are unsure maybe it is not the one for you.

Good luck with your decision, naming someone is a massive decision. Smile

Poppins27 I LOVE Dylan for a girl and this was my original choice!! Just worried a wee bit that people would be narrow minded about it as its such a common boys name. However most ppl i mentioned it to surprised me by saying they loved it, i just wasn't sure it was really her though. I am sure I will be slated for that on here though!

Sooo, a lot of votes for Honor!! My only concerns are...is it v old fashioned? Is it an attractive name or slightly severe, and is it (forgive me) a bit posh? I ask this because we are definitely not posh and a lot of the other names suggested such as clementine, evangaline etc are what I would describe as very posh. No offence meant btw. Can you tell I am very very fussy?? And v indecisive- not a great combo!

I wonder if all these suggestions are just confusing the op more :) Go with Honor Iris! (American spelling of Honour looks much prettier as a name IMO)
