I cannot decide my daughters name, and you would not believe the pressure this is putting me under! Nothing seems to fit her and I am scared I'm going to have to just go with something I'm not entirely happy with just for the sake of choosing. I seem to find fault in every name I come up with- too popular, too bland, not good with surname, a friend has already used it etc.

To give some examples of the types of names I like:
Ellis- doesn't really suit her
Ruby- pretty popular, bit bland?
Ava- v v popular, don't want her to be one of five in get class
Honor- is this cool or frumpy?? Is it an attractive name or hard to live up to?
Reese?

I also like a name my friends daughter is called but am afraid it will piss her off if I use it and it feels like her name if you see what I mean.

I don't want too cute and girly but I do want cool, attractive and maybe a wee bit different.

Any suggestions??

Dylan is fabulous!

NotInMyDay · 23/03/2013 06:05

Sofia is beautiful. It takes just as much effort to say Sophie so it won't be shortened to that. Louisa isn't shortened to Louise is it?

It'll probably be the diminutive Sof by her friends.

nooka · 23/03/2013 05:46

My aunt is a Sophia known as Sophy. That might well be her choice though (I didn't even know she was really a Sophia until I heard her complain about having her name spelled Sophie).

EldritchCleavage · 23/03/2013 00:47

Honor is great, and I've never known a Sophia shortened to Sophie.
But what about Noa? It is common as a girl's name in Israel I think, though not here.

seeker · 23/03/2013 00:44

Please don't give her a boy's name.

springmum11 · 23/03/2013 00:40

I think Honor is lovely too.

Honour is nice. What about Peta?

BabyHMummy · 22/03/2013 22:17

if you really like the name your friend has used then talk to her and ask her. we don't know what flavour we are having yet but we have a name if it is a girl. It is the same as my friend's little girl although her daughter is 5 and when i spoke to her she cried (happy tears) that we were thinking of using the same name.

Poppins27 · 22/03/2013 17:36

Wahoo...Someone likes my name!! Haha

I really love it and just imagine a little girl with a great character, and Dilly is too lovely!! (Hadn't thought of that as a nn).

I do like Honor too, but don't love it.

But it really is a personal opinion, go with your gut instinct and like someone said previously, try both until one becomes a natural favourite.

I actually didn't like my Dd's name when pregnant, I had my heart set on a name that she just didn't suit when I met her. We couldn't decide for a few days but Lottie just fit, and I love it now!! No name is universally loved by all, but if you smile when you say it and imagine your Daughter then I reckon you've cracked it Grin

halecromp · 22/03/2013 17:26

Elise?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 22/03/2013 16:40

Dylan Iris is a very cool name. As is Honor Iris. Try them, call her one or the other to yourself when you're feeding her late at night etc - see how you feel.

MimiSunshine · 22/03/2013 16:04

Go for Dylan, I have always loved it for a girl as well. Don't know why, I like Elliot for a girl but I see you're not so much a fan.
Dylan Iris I can see becoming Dilly as an affectionate nn (although pre planning that is a no no on here) and its that cute for when she's a baby.
Stop doubting yourself and try calling her Honor for a bit (if you like it) and then Dylan and see how you feel

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 22/03/2013 15:56

Going back to page 1, Zoe is very nice and underused imo. Second to that, I'd say Honor is unusual and elegant. If you want a unisex name, how about

Pagan
Cassidy
Morgan
and as mentioned here on page 7, Sydney
