What do you think?

We really like it. Wanted a strong, classic, traditional name.

Any comments?

Love Elizabeth.

My good friends dd is Elizabeth. My friend had always intended her pet name to be Liza, but it stuck at Lizzie. It's seems to suit her, and she's actually the only one in her school.

Bonsoir · 24/03/2013 16:09

I've not met any French Floras of the same age as my Flora - the other one at her school was Brazilian - though according to statistics Flora is a lot more popular in France than in the UK. They might all be in Corsica, though, where it is a regional name!

ElegantSufficiency · 24/03/2013 12:16

So would Flora be a name that is popular for the same age group in France and UK then? that seems surprisingly rare.

Bonsoir · 24/03/2013 09:47

emmyloo2 - Flora is great in real life! She has only ever had one other Flora in her year group/class, so relatively unusual, and it works in all languages/travels well which is important to us.

olivertheoctopus · 21/03/2013 22:47

Not keen on Liz or Lizzie as a nn but Betty is beautiful.

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 21/03/2013 22:42

We have an Elizabeth and we always call her Lizzie. It just seemed to stick. I've always loved it though, and can remember reading Pride and Prejudice and loving the way Elizabeth Bennett was affectionately called Lizzie.

saffronwblue · 21/03/2013 22:35

I love it. It is my middle name and DD's middle name. We thought about it a lot for DD but I don't like Lib or Liz and I knew they would be used. If we had used it for a first name we were going to insist on nn Bess.

Zoomania · 21/03/2013 22:32

Love it! Just suggested it on another thread! Timeless and so many nn.

emmyloo2 · 21/03/2013 22:27

Bonsoir - sorry to highjack - but how do you find the name Flora? We have that on our list for DD as well as Elizabeth and I am just wondering how it goes down in real life.

I think Flora Elisabeth is gorgeous by the way...

mewkins · 21/03/2013 21:24

I have one too! Named after my grandmother (a Bet) - my dd is very much a Lizzie although dh wanted Beth to start with. She really isn't a Beth, she's loopy and just suits the name.

Bonsoir · 21/03/2013 18:16

My DD is Flora Elisabeth Zoë. I was mad keen on Elisabeth for ages and really wanted to DD to have it as a middle name, but sometimes I regret it and wish I had gone for something less conservative.

NettoSuperstar · 21/03/2013 18:14

Love it.
It's DD's middle name, as I gave her a hard to spell/pronounce first name, and thought she could use Elizabeth or any of it's shortenings if she ever hated her name.
She's 11 and doesn't so far, but it's till a beautiful and classic name.

I call my Elizabeth 'Lillibet' :)

JumpingJetFlash · 21/03/2013 17:58

You have GREAT taste!!! My dd is Elizabeth - I always intended to call her Beth for short and I do but I also use her full name a lot as I love it!

I think it's a name that suits you what ever your character or future professions - but then I confess to being biased as I picked it lol.

louisianablue2000 · 21/03/2013 17:43

Very classic name. We have it as a middle name for one of the DDs.

Its the name i have lined up if we have a girl.

Elizabeth Mary

Still18atheart · 21/03/2013 17:37

Love Elizabeth, I like how there are so many nn that it can be decided based on dds character

MrsSpagBol · 21/03/2013 17:26

Freedom I am due in July too!!!

Re: royal baby name - thanks for the heads up but we're not english so means nothing to us (with all due respect, just has no significance iyswim).

MsWinkleman · 21/03/2013 10:26

Mary Elizabeth Diana Caroline - that could be a royal baby girl name

MsWinkleman · 21/03/2013 10:23

I like the nick name Beth. but I couldn't imagine using the full name Elizabeth and calling it out forty times a day. But it does have nice nick names. Libby, Eliza and Beth.

gertrudestein · 21/03/2013 10:14

It's a beautiful name! And she can shorten it to whatever she likes, or keep it formal. If we were having a girl this is what I would call her!

The only thing I have also thought about (and it's either a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how you feel) is that it's a royal name and so the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge may well call their baby that ... For some people it would be great to share a name with a prince or a princess born in the same month/ year, but for other people it would not be so great. It's totally personal, but thought I'd flag it up in case it makes a difference for you!

FreedomOfTheTess · 21/03/2013 10:01

Flipping love it.

It's a strong contender for bump (a girl due in July), only with the Elisabeth spelling, as that's how it is found in our family.

I too like classic and traditional names.

My children are Jack, Alexander and Sarah. I'm sure they send some into a state of boredom, but I don't care, as they're names that will stand the test of time.

MrsSpagBol · 21/03/2013 09:47

Exactly Meringue

"I like traditional, classic and elegant names. " - exactly!

Thanks all Flowers
