Hector
Barnaby
Casper
Ted/Teddy (Edward)

Annie (Annabel/Annabella)
Ottilie
Arabella
Ophelia
Autumn

We already have our boys, Sebastian and Ethan

Your son's names are beautiful and (without getting into the previous debate as I have no interest in doing that) Ethan was named particularly well if you consider he was early, as in Hebrew his name means both permanence and strength...
Sebastian means 'revered' which is also a lovely meaning.

Since having my dd a couple of weeks ago and the naming process which started , I have been really interested in meanings of names...

From your list I like:

Edward (prosperous/wealth) and Autumn (self explanatory)

Other names to consider:

Ines (pure/holy)
Alice (noble)

Good luck and my experiences on here have been positive, so please come back for more :)

ElegantSufficiency · 24/03/2013 14:11

I like Ethan too.

MortifiedAdams · 24/03/2013 14:07

I dont know.any Ethans and I really like it.

I like your girls names but only particularly like Edward from your list (but would permanently use Ted).

What about Christopher nn Kit?

Girls names - Hazel, Beatrice, Flora

ElegantSufficiency · 24/03/2013 14:02

Jemima is in the same style as Sebastian I think, but is a bible name so goes with Ethan, so for a girl I suggest to you give you Jemima

ElegantSufficiency · 24/03/2013 14:01

Hector - quite like it, bbut I prefer Victor. Hector is one of those trendy names taht people on mumsnet think is very rare, but there are a few out there now.
Barnaby - ok. It goes with Sebastian. Barney is a good nick name.

Casper - ok, not mad about it.
Ted/Teddy (Edward) - prefer nn Red for Edward

Annie (Annabel/Annabella) Prefer Annabel to Annabella. Annie is nice.

Ottilie -no, makes me think of a doily. It is really is awful
Arabella - no. Reminds me of farming
Ophelia - no. She drowned herself didn't she. Really. No.
Autumn - ok, but not at all in the same style as your other names. This is more modern and American. But I do quite like it. Sebastian and Autumn??

We already have our boys, Sebastian and Ethan

DejaB00 · 24/03/2013 13:55

LOVE Ted, and Ophelia

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 24/03/2013 13:41

Hope you feel you can come back OP. Apart from the frothers there are lots of helpful posters. Btw Lewis as mentioned by CheungFun would go well with your DSs' names.

AThingInYourLife · 24/03/2013 08:15

I really like the names Ethan and Sebastian and I think they fit nicely together.

How about

Tiarnan
Kieran

(Just keeping with the N ending)

Or for a girl, how about

Patience

(A bit out of left field, but Autumn made me think of it.

Also August is the first month of Autumn in the Celtic calendar.)

busybeeme · 24/03/2013 07:58

I just wanted to apologise as my last comment was a bit flouncy.

But Ethan is my son and I obviously feel very protective of him. However indirect, it's hard not to take any negative comments regarding him/my choice for him personally. (Not helped by pregnancy hormones making me extra sensitive I'm sure)

CheungFun · 24/03/2013 07:37

I like Edward best for a boys name, Sebastion, Ethan and Edward go well together IMO and for a girl Sebastian, Ethan and Annie go best.

Fwiw I always thought Ethan was quite a 'posh' name, not chavvy...? I like the name Ethan and it was on my short list for a boys name, but we went with Lewis instead. My friend also had Ethan as a short list name, but went with Ewan. Not too popular at all, I also live in the home counties and I know a 4 year old Ethan and that's it.

I hope you stay busybeeme, there is a lot of good advice on mumsnet and lovely people, just a few people can be a bit too blunt!

busybeeme · 24/03/2013 07:16

I put the boys names on here simply to avoid them being put forward as suggestions

At no point have I asked for comment on them.

I will state again my worry with Ethan has been its popularity. To me popular names mean those used by all. I have made no mention of posh/chav, I just don't think like that.

As it happens as someone hinted earlier, I live in the
Home Counties, in an affluent area and there are many Ethan's here. It seems to me it's only in the online world that some people seem to want to condemn it as chavy (whatever that means)

Thank you everyone who has taken the time to comment on my list and puts forward other suggestions. I really do appreciate it. I had only avoided coming back to the post as it seemed to keep circling around to my son's name.

This was my first post on MN and I suspect my last. I'm not sure my skin is thick enough.

For Gods sake! This 'don't analyse OP's other names' shit is really getting on my nerves. If OP did not want people to look at her other childrens names and discuss names that may go with them, the OP wouldn't have put up other kids names.I'm getting quite pissed off with other posters 'gentle nudging'.Fuck it,let people name their kids William,Edward and Wayne,eh?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 23/03/2013 14:27

OP asked about DC3 name not for belated analysis of her earlier choices.

Astley · 23/03/2013 10:07

Annabel goes really well with your 2. I wouldn't go for something like Arabella as that is quite a 'posh' name so might make you feel worse about Ethan over the. Annabel is a classic, beautiful name without the super post connotations or being super popular so I think is a much better fit.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 22/03/2013 11:47

Jasper is a nice suggestion. Love Tabitha.

Gwennan · 22/03/2013 10:08

Both your boys have names that end in N so I don't know whether you'd want to consider another a name ending in N for a third son. If so, I think Reuben, Rowan or Benjamin would be good choices.

Otherwise, I really like Edward and Barnaby from your list. I don't like Hector.

I like Casper a lot too but the problem I have with this name is I'm never sure whether to spell it Casper or Caspar! I prefer the look of Caspar but I don't suppose it makes much difference. I think Kacper is the most popular spelling in the baby name lists, anyway.

If you like Casper, you might like Jasper and Oscar.

If you like Edward, you might like Edwin or Edmund.

Other names that I think might sit well alongside Sebastian and Ethan include Miles, Leo, Andrew, Jonathan, Peter, Dominic, Timothy and Alistair.

As for your girls' names, I like Annie and Annabel but I think Annabella is too fussy. Ottilie, Arabella and Ophelia are all gorgeous names but, like Annabella, I think they are too fussy. I can't really imagine using any of them on a day-to-day basis.

Autumn ends with N like your other two names but it seems like a strange choice compared to traditional Sebastian and biblical Ethan. I suppose people often have quite different tastes in boys' and girls' names though! I think it sounds pretty but it doesn't pass my test - is this a name I would want to have? If you want a name ending in N there's always Lauren or Evelyn to consider.

Other suggestions: Isadora, Cecily, Cecilia, Serena, Tabitha, Jemima, Amber, Susannah, Eloise, Georgina, Gabriella, Gabrielle, Stella, Mariella, Rosanna, Cordelia, Hannah, Anna, Joanna, Alexandra, Victoria, Francesca, Rebecca, Melissa.

olivertheoctopus · 21/03/2013 22:11

Love Hector and Barnaby!GrinOttilie is v pretty. Wouldn't risk Autumn for summer baby. I also know a Summer born in December and an Autumn born in June.

twinklestar2 · 21/03/2013 22:09

I like Ethan and Sebastian :)

Love Ophelia for a girl, the boys names aren't really to my taste.

williaminajetfighter · 21/03/2013 22:02

They are all a bit Home Counties in my opinion but I'd go for Hector and Autumn.

busybeeme · 21/03/2013 18:53

I'm due the very end of August so I know Autumn is a bit left field. I'm not sure I could do to a child slightly out there name when it also doesn't necessarily "fit" the birthday.

But aside from liking it as a name, it has a special meaning that's a bit personal to go into here. If we don't use it as a first name, it would definitely be one of the middle names along with Bea.

Still18atheart · 21/03/2013 18:40

Hector - like
Barnaby - love
Casper - the ghost
Ted/Teddy (Edward) - love

Annie (Annabel/Annabella) - love
Ottilie - don't know how to pronounce so no
Arabella - love but has a lot of ppsh connatations
Ophelia - love
Autumn - when are you due ? If you are due september - november time love otherwise no

busybeeme · 21/03/2013 18:37

Two not too Es that should read!

OP posts:
busybeeme · 21/03/2013 18:36

Thank you for all your feedback, it's really useful. Seems a relatively even split in preferences which I'm slightly surprised at (pleasantly though)

With Ted/Teddy/Edward I do worry slightly about having too Es. Is that silly?

Hector, we were more thinking of - of Troy, in Greek mythology. I wasn't aware of the other meanings so will look into that.

Matilda, I love but we know people who have used it so might be a bit too close

Eleanor is great but Ethan has a very good friend called this (well mostly known as Nel) so again too close.

Ottilie, I am awful at sounding out names but I think it would be O-teh-lee/O-til-lee. Tilly would be the nn I could imagine us using.

Thank you for your comments on Ethan's name. It touched a nerve as it is actually something that plays on my mind. His name is a consequence of circumstance and had we had those extra 12 weeks I don't honestly know what he would have been called. I had never met an Ethan, so had no idea of popularity or the connotations it has for some. That said, as a name I do really like it. Smile

Thanks you for your time again

pigletpower · 21/03/2013 18:19

Sorry,I didn't mean any offence. I really didn't think 'posh versus chav' but I did think 'posh versus popular'.In our area there are no Sebastions at our school, but many Ethans. Fingers-I do think it naive of you to say go for any name you like without a thought crossing your mind, even if you do go for your original choice.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/03/2013 17:33

Lovely boys' names - I adore all bar Casper (don't like this).
I thought today that you don't ever hear Howard, but you might like it.

The girls' names aren't doing anything for me, sorry.
