I heard this name a little while ago ( Jade Jaggers dd, I think) and think it is lovely. What do you think? I like the St. Francis of Assisi associations!

No, a name with Ass at the start is asking to be bullied. What will her friends call her? Ass, Assy or Sissy. Horrible.

NotTreadingGrapes · 21/03/2013 08:40

"as a name it has a few problems..."

Well, yes, like the fact it's not a name, it's a town. Look at all the other children whose parents have saddled them with towns as names. I give you Brooklyn Beckham and Lourdes Thingymadonnakid.

Neither of those parents known for style and class. (at least not in the generally accepted sense of the words)

NotTreadingGrapes · 21/03/2013 08:38

Bognor, Scunthorpe, Little-Wapping-in-the-Hollow.

It's the thin end of the wedge I tell ya.

Francesca?

mathanxiety · 21/03/2013 04:11

One of my grannies was known as Cissie.

MustafaCake · 20/03/2013 13:02

Too much potential for teasing IMHO.

Like others said, the child would have to be sassy, hip and trendy to pull that name off.

Eskino · 20/03/2013 12:51

Sissy is an adorable name!

Gwennan · 20/03/2013 12:41

A difficult one to pull off if you ask me.

Much prefer Francis or Frances!

mathanxiety · 20/03/2013 02:30

I had a nun named Francis Xavier and she was known as Fanny X by the more uncouth among the parents.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 19/03/2013 20:34

Assisi, the place, is stunning - not much like Birmingham !
And I heard the new Pope did allay confusion the other day by saying it was indeed Francis of Assisi that had "come to his heart" in relation to choosing a new name.
But I think as a name it does have a few problems, as mentioned by PP's.

Just awful, sorry.

ShrewveTuesday · 19/03/2013 20:21

Love it. I thought of this name too long before Jade Jagger and, weirdly, it popped into my head again yesterday (probably a pope association).

Rosa · 19/03/2013 20:21

Well Brooklyn, Phoenix , Roma, Palermo(a) why not? I think it is actually very daft and I pity the poor child at the mercy of the rest of the class. You might want to consider Milano, Venezia,Bologna or even Torino as well....

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/03/2013 20:17

Sorry but I think it is ridiculous.

AThingInYourLife · 19/03/2013 20:16

I can't believe a thread with this title is in Baby Names.

Bunbaker · 19/03/2013 20:15

"What's Assisi like? It would be worth checking in case you're naming your child the Italian equivalent of Birmingham."

Love it Grin

Trumpton · 19/03/2013 20:14

I had a teacher whose initials were F X (.Francis Xavier ) He had 10 children . We called him Fucking Extraordinary .

CelticPromise · 19/03/2013 20:10

What's Assisi like? It would be worth checking in case you're naming your child the Italian equivalent of Birmingham.

Bunbaker · 19/03/2013 20:07

How about St Francis?

choccyp1g · 19/03/2013 20:03

Francis Xavier is probably a better attempt at spelling.

LaurieFairyCake · 19/03/2013 19:58

It's completely ludicrous.

Put the pregnancy hormones down.

scaevola · 19/03/2013 19:56

All the official announcements have said he chose the name for Assisi. Though he is a Jesuit.

Pancakeflipper · 19/03/2013 19:55

I am with the A Sissy team.
It's a top name but not fair on a child.

choccyp1g · 19/03/2013 19:54

Apparently the new pope is named after Franacis Xaviour who was a real hard-liner...not the cuddly animal lover.

scaevola · 19/03/2013 19:52

And her brother could be Medjugorje
