I heard this name a little while ago ( Jade Jaggers dd, I think) and think it is lovely. What do you think? I like the St. Francis of Assisi associations!

No, a name with Ass at the start is asking to be bullied. What will her friends call her? Ass, Assy or Sissy. Horrible.

Well, yes, like the fact it's not a name, it's a town. Look at all the other children whose parents have saddled them with towns as names. I give you Brooklyn Beckham and Lourdes Thingymadonnakid.

Neither of those parents known for style and class. (at least not in the generally accepted sense of the words)

Too much potential for teasing IMHO.

Like others said, the child would have to be sassy, hip and trendy to pull that name off.

I had a nun named Francis Xavier and she was known as Fanny X by the more uncouth among the parents.

Assisi, the place, is stunning - not much like Birmingham !
And I heard the new Pope did allay confusion the other day by saying it was indeed Francis of Assisi that had "come to his heart" in relation to choosing a new name.
But I think as a name it does have a few problems, as mentioned by PP's.

Love it. I thought of this name too long before Jade Jagger and, weirdly, it popped into my head again yesterday (probably a pope association).

Well Brooklyn, Phoenix , Roma, Palermo(a) why not? I think it is actually very daft and I pity the poor child at the mercy of the rest of the class. You might want to consider Milano, Venezia,Bologna or even Torino as well....

I had a teacher whose initials were F X (.Francis Xavier ) He had 10 children . We called him Fucking Extraordinary .

All the official announcements have said he chose the name for Assisi. Though he is a Jesuit.
