I can't use Cressida now can I?

I've loved the name Cressida for years. But I happened to glance over a copy of the DM while I was reading it avidly and I see Prince Harry is dating a Cressida and it is apparently serious.

I can't use Cressida without looking like a Royal fan who has china corgi plates hanging up now, can I :(

any suggestions for similar? Cressida was the limit for fanciful DH would take. I also like Beatrice and Eleanor...

Oooh Celia! Now that I really like!

Can't have Cordelia it's already in the family, unfortunately

Prince Harry seems to switch girlfriends pretty frequently so I wouldn't worry. Pretty name though. Also like Cordelia as suggested above. Miranda just makes me think of Miranda Hart who I am not keen on.

TheRealFellatio · 20/03/2013 11:24

I don't think it matters. the press always latch on to any girl he so much as smiles at - she could be chip paper by next year. Just pick the name you like.

Cordelia is tons nicer though. Grin

SIDA is Spanish and French for AIDS. CresSIDA I know it's not the name, but I see it in there.

MsJupiterJones · 20/03/2013 09:26

Packedlunch I got it Grin

skratta · 17/03/2013 08:51

Celia?
Rosalind?

thistlelicker · 17/03/2013 08:41

Cressida sounds
Like something
U would eat!

Ninjacat · 17/03/2013 08:35

Carensa?

LadyCressida · 17/03/2013 08:27

You're welcome!

KatieScarlett2833 · 17/03/2013 08:22

Thank you Grin
It was an audio book narrator that confused me, now I know he was wrong.
I really like your name, so it was important to know how to say it correctly.

LadyCressida · 17/03/2013 08:20

Oh chrysaide is the Chaucer version, Cressida the Shakespearean, of the same character.

LadyCressida · 17/03/2013 08:19

Spelling is fine as it is spelled like it sounds. Sometimes get pronunciation issues with people thinking it is a long 'I' rather than short ('cress-eee-da' rather than 'cres-si-da') but if one becomes famous that will put an end to that!

I get Cress or Cressi from friends/family

KatieScarlett2833 · 17/03/2013 08:11

How is it pronounced, is it Chris-aid or Cress-ida?
Have heard it pronounced both ways and am confused Confused

bigkidsdidit · 17/03/2013 08:05

I'm not dismissing it entirely on the basis of this thread; I think it's changed for me now, that's all, and I suspect deep down DH doens't like it that much.

It's still on the list, but it's not top any more.

DO people know how to spell it, in general, Lady C?

LadyCressida · 17/03/2013 08:03

It's my name and if he marries her I think I'll be fine if when introducing myself I have to say 'Hi I'm Cressida... Yes like the princess'

I like my name, it means 'golden one' - don't dismiss it just because a few people on here say it's awful! That is their taste, not yours.

I think Miranda will be immediately associated with the comedian.

bigkidsdidit · 17/03/2013 07:27

I'm 29 weeks so a bit to go.

not a lot of love for Cressida on here! I might scratch. It's my fave but not only name. thanks :)

And I had totally forgot about Princess Beatrice. And if a boy he will be Leo or Edward. FGS, what is it with me and royals!

nooka · 17/03/2013 04:53

My sister had a friend called Cressida when we were kids. I don't associate it with anything really, and I'd not worry about who a minor royal was dating. Does Beatrice make you think of Princess Beatrice?

I like Miranda more though.

baskingseals · 16/03/2013 23:09

what about Araminta or Octavia?

Miranda is a beautiful name though - i prefer it to Cressida.

Iwishiwasasleep · 16/03/2013 22:15

That car looks very like the one my DF had Feile

Thanks for the memory OP Grin

Feilefoo · 16/03/2013 21:24

Cressida is a car, and that's why you shouldn't use it.

Startail · 16/03/2013 21:24

Or Cecily, I like Clarissa although both really need a posh double barrelled surname.

Eleanor gets turned into Ellie and DD already confuses me by being friends with two Ellies (I wouldn't mind, but their full names are different so why do they both insist on Ellie?)

TotallyEggFlipped · 16/03/2013 21:15

What about Carrissa (not Clarissa)?

Shr0edinger · 16/03/2013 21:10

Well, are you about to have your baby? At the moment, it's not publicly serious is it? he didn't go to a wedding she was at as he didn't want to be seen with her or she with him. Sounds a bit shabby when you type it.

Cressida is awful though. It would suit a snake. sssssss

Iwishiwasasleep · 16/03/2013 20:27

Vanessa?
Calista?
Arabella?

My DF had a Toyota Cressida in the 80's Grin
