Well I'm probably not. Last name is Castle and Frog Castle sounds like a pond ornament.

I'm so fucking stuck for names. We already have Lilly, Jack and Alexandra. I have a huge list and would love some honest opinions please!

Eden
Francesca (Frankie)

Boys:
Charles (Charlie)
Rafferty
Finley/Finlay
Ned (I want Eddard but DP vetoed)

Advice or suggestions welcome. Please be as mean as you like about them. I won't strop Grin

I think these work best / are the nicest

Francesca (Frankie)
Erin
Georgia (Georgie)

Charles (Charlie)
Rafferty
Arthur

Redheadgal · 19/03/2013 08:53

Charlie Castle is by far the best. It's snappy. He's a loveable rogue, a mischievous handful. Not really sure what girls name would work though.

MortifiedAdams · 19/03/2013 08:31

Oh and Henry Fred for a boy.

MortifiedAdams · 19/03/2013 08:30

Georgia Scout Castle for me.

wiltingfast · 19/03/2013 08:28

Ok, find the girls names you have hard and when I put them with castle harder! Probably Sienna Castle works best but it will remind people of the film star. Phoebe Castle works also I think.

Love the boys' names list as far as Hugo. Think Hugo Castle, Henry Castle and Ned Castle work best. Love Ned!

How about

Jane Castle?

Ruth Castle?

Elizabeth Castle?

I think you need to go for a clear name really to avoid the place name thing popping up.

WormCanner · 18/03/2013 23:38

But it's just an initial. How often is a single initial plus surname spoken aloud? I think it's totally ridiculous to rule out a whole swathe of names on that basis. By the same token I don't think there's much wrong with A or R either, certainly not with a name like Castle. Of course there are some "noun surnames" which will sound unfortunate with certain names, but Castle is not one of them imo.

OK, I give up. Why can't you have anything beginning with C with a noun surname?

Willow36 · 18/03/2013 17:07

Girls:
Phoebe - Love this
Xanthe - Not so keen
Eden - Beautiful
Francesca (Frankie) - Lovely
Erin - Yes, love it!
Harper - No, too Beckham for me
Piper - Not keen
Sophia - Gorgeous but I prefer Sofia as the spelling
Beatrix (Bea) - I prefer Beatrice to Beatrix
Carys/Karis (sounds like a landmark with surname) - Not keen
Georgia (Georgie) - Lovely
Ava - Not keen
Anna - Classic, can't go wrong IMO
Lyra - Not keen
Scout - Too "out there" for me
Sienna - Love this

Boys:

How about Althea or Romilly for a girl?

No, judging by most of the names you listed I didn't think you would like it.

Kyrptonite · 17/03/2013 14:56

I'm not keen on Jean or Louise. The combination also doesn't work for me.

I don't want an overly frilly princessy girls name. Or a made up boys name. Apart from that I'm open to suggestions.

Unless its Blanche. Please not Blanche

Scout is an absolutely ridiculous name to give a child, especially a girl.

I think the name of the girl in To Kill a Mockingbird was Jean Louise. That is nice, and would go fine with Castle.

showtunesgirl · 17/03/2013 13:33

I think as a general rule, anything beginning with an A or a C is out. The whole A Castle and C(uh) Castle is going to be a bugbear.

MaggieMaggieMaggieMcGill · 17/03/2013 13:31

I have just made this up ( I think) but as a boys name what about 'Jethron Castle'?

WormCanner · 17/03/2013 13:06

Kyrptonite · 17/03/2013 12:06

Castle is actually hyphenated with something starting with Br and rhymes with tasted. Outed self completely Grin

We just don't use the first part as its too similar to bastard.

Bearcrumble · 17/03/2013 10:50

The 'ca' at the end of francesca followed by the 'ca' at the start of Castle. It doesn't sound right even if you ignore the poo thing.

ChompieMum · 17/03/2013 08:07

Francesca is fab! Love it! Nothing wrong with using your middle name at all. As for the Italian poo, I could be wrong but I don't see it.

How about Xavi, Alistair, Daniel, Milo?

Bearcrumble · 17/03/2013 07:51

no no francesca castle has 'ca ca' in the middle - sounds awkward and means poo poo in Italian.

wigglesrock · 16/03/2013 21:55

I wouldn't worry about using Francesca just because it's your middle name. Most people outside family wouldn't know your middle name anyway and it is a beautiful name.

Kyrptonite · 16/03/2013 21:54

That's the problem with the annoying surname. Everything sounds like a landmark or tourist attraction.

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/03/2013 21:24

Corin Castle sounds like a National Trust place.
Oscar Castle or Eddard or Edward Castle all sound fine.
