Blake?

Am so stuck on a boys name. We want something different, strong but not common (dare I say not chav potential) and we have been calling bump Blake for a while but something is holding me back-HELP! 3 weeks to d day and no others on short list!

Vivienne thanks for the feedback but have to say I would never name my DCs anything like your list, think very boring and common, more the last generation, which you have covered with 3 of my DPs brothers first and middle names. Obviously have read every baby name app going, but not come across anything else that has jumped out at me.

Fingers crossed our boy gets named!

I do like Blake, I had it on my list but in the end we chose the name Tate and after a few odd expressions/comments we absolutely love it. We also have an Ashton and again no others at his school and I don't think (eek hope no-one else does) chavvy.

Well I like more traditional names like Michael, Thomas, Joseph and Philip. I also quite like Joshua. I'm not keen on surname type names. Have you looked through a baby name book. I can see why you want a more unusual name. It's difficult.

Blake is fab. It's the middle name of one of my boys. It means handsome. No weird nickname potential. Yes, I say! Smile

It's a difficult one ... We love the classic boys names you mentioned and my DH would not be massively keen on a name in the top 10. However my argument would be - why can I not call my child a name I love just because everyone else has it? It's important to choose a name you love, even if it is popular IMO.

Xander? Officially I think it's short for Alexander.

Seriously not froggy, I would a chav name however I would also hate a name that is in top 100 and would be another in the same class. Your Harry, Olivers, Stanleys, Georges all very good, but don't want my child to be one of many....what to do?!

My little one is Blake. It was my husbands choice and all through the pregnancy I was like you, unsure whether I liked it or not. He's a toddler now and the name couldn't suit him more. Although since naming him I now know of 4 or 5 other children with the same name, so it is rising in popularity.

I had no idea who Blake Carrington is I had to google him and I am 32 so I doubt if a child is born now he will be associated with that! I read that a lot on here when I see the name Blake come up. Or they will mention Blake 7 (again something I had to google) a series on TV before the 80s!

Some of the reasons not to name a child something on MN just makes me giggle.

It sounds nice and normal to me, no naughtiness attached to it.

Other names that could be surnames but are used as a first name these days could be

Cole
Logan

I actually think of Blake as a girls name - Blake Lively is the only one I have heard of until the other day when a friend had a baby girl and called her Blake..
