Annabel, Anna or Amber?

SleepyCatOnTheMat · 13/03/2013 08:46

I used to think the name Anna was chic but now it strikes me as kind of boring. Annabel is more sparkly but I'm not sure it goes with my DS's name (Gabriel). Amber is simple and nice, but is it, well, a bit chavvy?

What do you think?

"Anna is my favourite, it strikes me as simple and elegant. Never met one who wasn't lovely either! "

I totally agree- all Annas I have ever met have been amazing people.

TheAccidentalExhibitionist · 13/03/2013 21:17

You have a beautiful Amber Rustybear

What about Marianne? that would really go with Gabriel (in my head).

3 syllables + 3 syllables.

HorryIsUpduffed · 13/03/2013 20:51

Amber feels a bit dated now - they're all 8+ IME.

I love Anna and Annabel equally for different families.

Amber is lovely, see my profile for proof of how gorgeous an Amber can be....

Shr0edinger · 13/03/2013 20:47

Annabel matches Gabriel better, in length and style
I like Anna
I like Amber too but it is not popular on mumsnet Confused
Annabel my favourite.

TigerFeet · 13/03/2013 10:46

Anna is beautiful, classic and timeless, I would have used it myself but my surname also has two short 'a' sounds so it would have sounded odd. I only know of one, the daughter of a colleague that I've never met so very few round here. Annabel a bit flowery for my taste although it's not massively dissimilar to dd2's. Amber is a bit meh but I know a couple of lovely ones so that makes me like it a bit more.

teatrolley · 13/03/2013 10:39

If you like Hannah, that's my favourite. Then Anna.

Floggingmolly · 13/03/2013 10:38

Annabel will always be a dolls name for me.

Floggingmolly · 13/03/2013 10:38

Anna is lovely - are there loads of them about? I've never met any.

noddyholder · 13/03/2013 10:31

Poshest girl I know eg gentry types called amber

birdofthenorth · 13/03/2013 10:30

Audrey by a country mile, then Anna.

hatsybatsy · 13/03/2013 09:47

I'd go for Annabel - Anna can always be a nickname?

Not keen on Amber -sorry.

(also not keen on Audrey - have an elderly aunt with the name and cannot imagine a little girl with the same moniker)

SleepyCatOnTheMat · 13/03/2013 09:40

Yes, bootsy, I quite like Audrey, and Aubrey (for a girl or a boy - it was on our shortlist for DS).

I'm also thinking about Hannah, as it would share the biblical thing with Gabriel, and I'm drawn to other biblical names for any future boys - Benjamin, Reuben, Joshua, Tobias/Toby etc.

It doesn't help that we have a really common surname - think Smith/Jones.

Yup, Anna every time for me. (Disclaimer: my Anna is lovely!)

Ulysses · 13/03/2013 09:32

Anna but DD is one so maybe biased! Haven't met any other in her age group with the same name though.

Leeds2 · 13/03/2013 09:29

Anna would be my choice.

QuickLookBusy · 13/03/2013 09:27

Anna, simple but beautiful.

bootsycollins · 13/03/2013 09:25

Have you considered Audrey?

Willow36 · 13/03/2013 09:22

Anna for me too.
