Emmé, Terosa or Amarie?

i wanted something slightly unusual but not totally outrageous or totaly made up ..

Well, it's a fail on the latter count - they sound totally made up.

Sorry - I try not to be overtly negative on BN threads, but these names are not great and as I sense you're not unwaveringly committed to them, I'm going to weigh in.

If you are going to make up a name, at least make it a lovely, appealing one. These are just totally meh. Also, seriously, you can't call your baby Terosa because somebody on Facebook called their baby it and you fancied it. You just can't.

They sound like names that just missed what they were supposed to be. The effect of choosing them will be that you will appear to be a parent who can't spell.

Jasmine, Ivy, Rosie, Marie, AnneMarie, Anna Marie, Tessa, Rosa, Tessa-Rose, Emma, Emily, Emilia, Amelia, are all nice but mish mashes of various combinations are not. Faux French accents (on names that are not French) are silly.

They sound like guests on Jerry Springer

I think if Amarie was someone's username it was possible in reference to Amarië (pronounced a-mar-ree-ay) an elf betrothed to Finrod in The Silmarillion.

It's not a real name, it's a Tolkien name. So it would be like calling your DD Galadriel, but more obscure.

How about Arwen? It's a real name.

I too thought of the singer Amerie. I think that is pronounced Ay-muh-ree.

I was also reminded of Amalie, a continental European version of Amelia. This name (and Amalia) crops up quite a bit in royal circles.

What about Emerence, as a long name for Emme/é?

Terosa - awful. People will say "like the car?" (Testarossa) everytime she introduces herself. How about Tessa, or Rosa?

Amarie - also awful. People will say "Anne Marie?". Why not just call her Anne/a Marie, and have be done with it?

Emme - what's wrong with plain old Emma? That's what people will think she's called anyway. Is Emme "Emmee", or "Emay"?

Alaska - people will assume that's where she was conceived (like Chelsea Clinton), or that you have some connection to the state. There's also the "I'll ask her" joke mentioned above.

Ivy - the best of the lot, though not to my taste. At least it's an actual name, albeit makes me think of a kitchen scullery maid in a period drama!

I never weigh in on baby name threads, but OP, please don't do it. They're not good. If you like the nickname Rosie, why not just call the child Rosie?

My name v v close to emme. I love it but have spent my whole life correcting people and having to spell it out. Wouldn't change it though.

I have met an Amaria, and there is an American singer called Amerie, but I don't particularly like any of the names you have listed.

Emma, Teresa or Amelie.

I've not heard of them either but of the three, I'd choose Terosa.
I don't understand why you would give a child a name you like only to shorten it though. (I do know this happens a lot though so is probably my issue!)

As for spelling out names as no one has heard of them, I have a very common first name and surname and I'm always being asked how to spell both as they can have different spellings. My DD has a an unusual first name (168 born last year) and will frequently be asked how to spell it but I love her name and hope she will too. If I get asked how to spell my "common" name, I don't see it makes much difference tbh!

Oh good. Op they are terrible, give her a real name, not one someone has made up that she will spend her life having to explain and then spell to people. Jasmine and Ivy are fine

My thoughts (please feel free to ignore!) are:

Terosa - Testoterone
Amarie - everyone would think it was AnneMarie
Emme - sounds like a pet name for Emily. Personally I wouldn't want my child to have a name they have to spell out for everyone for the next 90 years (see above)
Jasmine - nice
Alaska - no no no. Imagine how many times she'll hear the comment "I'll ask her"
Ivy - isn't that Beyone's daughter's name? I wouldn't use a celebs kid's name.

Rosie and Ivy are nice. Jasmine is not to my taste but is, at least, an actual name.

The rest are, without exception, ridiculous.

Where did you hear of them? I'm a fan of unusual names but they sound made up to me. Happy to be corrected!

Amarie and Terosa look made up to me? And Alaska sounds like a dog's name.

Ivy is nice, as is Emme, though I'd go with Emmie or Emmy. Maybe short for Emmeline? Emmeline Ivy is lovely.
