Matilda or Tabitha?

mummabug · 05/03/2013 21:53

Tabitha - Do not mind cat associations, like nicknames Tabbi, Tab/s, Tabster etc.

Matilda - lovely but do not like nicknames Matty or Tilly.

...Was just wondering on others opinions, which would you go for?

mummabug · 10/03/2013 09:23

Oooh williaminajetfighter I do like the nn Tildy for Matilda.

Still18atheart, I well know the feeling of some pleb ruining a name for you forever! And yes, love Tilda Swinton :)

Thanks everyone am defo swaying even more after your help! x

Love Tabitha. Beautiful and unusual. No others would have the same name in the classroom. There are 3 Matilda's in my DS class at school, but no Tabithas.
Both are nice names though.

Still18atheart · 10/03/2013 00:15

Matilida, loved the roald dahl story

hate tabitha, there was a girl at my school called that and she was horrid so i don't like the connatations the name has to me

squoosh · 09/03/2013 23:43

Tabitha by a million miles.

williaminajetfighter · 09/03/2013 23:01

Wow OP those were our top two names when i had DD 6 years ago. In the end we went for Matilda but primarily call her Tilda or Tildy. Never Tilly.

Tabitha is fab but I come from a family with lisps and the 'bith' would have caused a lifetime of lisps!

Glad I did go with Matilda in the end. I think it's strong and Teutonic and as others have said love the namesake re Tilda Swinton. Matilda v popular at the moment but I think it ages well.

OkayHazel · 09/03/2013 16:12

Agreed Mummabug. Tilda Swinton is a glorious namesake too!

mummabug · 09/03/2013 02:31

Tilda is definitely the nicest nn for Matilda (imo) :)

I have a Matilda, we call her tilda like the rice Grin

thezebrawearspurple · 09/03/2013 01:15

Matilda is a lovely name, it's recent popularity a bit of a turn off, still lovely though. Tabitha is beautifulSmile

mummabug · 08/03/2013 23:53

Being less popular is always a massive bonus, I was a bit worried as Matilda seems to be rising up the top 100 every year....thanks anon x

I like Tabitha best as I've encountered many many Matildas since my DC were born and no Tabithas at all.

mummabug · 08/03/2013 23:13

Thanks everyone for your help xxx

Much prefer Matilda.

MoonHare · 07/03/2013 20:36

Tabitha rocks! You won't regret it.

mummabug · 07/03/2013 19:58

I wasn't aware of Dilly as a nn for Matilda (sounds like a nn for a dildo...eek!)

I like nicknames Tabs, Tabster, Tibby and don't mind Tabbi....whereas can't get to grips with any Matilda nicknames. Matt/Matti/Tilly/Tilda..I like Tilda but it seems more just like a name than an easy-flowing nickname iyswim?

mummabug · 07/03/2013 19:56

I like cats...don't mind the connotation at all.

But when it comes to something like 'Jemima' I immediately think 'Puddleduck' and would never use it! Love the name Felix as well...perhaps I am duck prejudiced ha ha!

Ooooh we had exactly this dilema and chose Tabitha. I think it's less of mouthful and passed the playground test in that respect, it's also less common. So glad we went with it, she's 2 now and suits it completely.

BeeBopDingALing · 06/03/2013 00:52

Both are really nice.

HairyHandedTrucker · 06/03/2013 00:34

Tabitha because Matilda is mine if I have another dd

ripsishere · 06/03/2013 00:09

Matilda by a million miles. HTH.

Startail · 06/03/2013 00:04

Rather, stupid touch screens.

Startail · 06/03/2013 00:03

Matilda, I can't get past the vision of either a tabby cat or a rath posh, but totally air headed teen.
