Little "baby no name" is now 6 days old and we need to decide which name to pick. It's between Nell and Eve. Love both but...
Eve - I think people may call her Evie which I like but it is currently very popular and this puts me off as I didn't want a faddy name.
Nell - am a bit worried folks will call her Nellie which I don't like.

Opinions please, which do you prefer?

Eva?

Ham69 · 03/03/2013 19:55

Definitely Nell, I love it. I think it's a name in it's own right too. Bored of Eve/ Eva/ Evie/ Evelyn/ Evangaline, etc.

ZolaBuddleia · 03/03/2013 18:50

Nell! Deffo! It's lovely.

Offcolour · 03/03/2013 17:22

Nell. Beautiful and unusual. Congratulations on your dd :-)

cakebaby · 03/03/2013 15:59

Ooohhhh, Nell, please pick Nell! It's so pretty and not commonly used at all, but was very popular in times gone by. I LOVE it and it was on my bump list but has been vetoed by dh. Grrrr....

mumbaisapphire · 03/03/2013 15:17

Much prefer Eve. FWIW I know an Evangeline who shortens it to Evie and also an Evelyn who does the same. However the Eva I know is simply Eva and same for the only Eve I've ever known - always just been Eve. I think the latter two are so short that they simply don't require shortening or changing.

Nell - a lovely name and not too popular

DickdastardlyAndMutley · 03/03/2013 13:23

Nell really lovely

ENormaSnob · 03/03/2013 13:20

I really like both.

5madthings · 03/03/2013 11:04

Nell. I know a toddler nell, her name is ellen but she gets called nell. Its a lovely name :)

ProlificWillyBreeder · 03/03/2013 11:04

Oh I love Nell. If I had a girl she would be Nell

BabsAndTheRu · 03/03/2013 11:02

Nell , beautiful name.

BoyMeetsWorld · 03/03/2013 10:58

Nell is beautiful, nella rather than Nellie as a nn

Blanketsandpillows · 03/03/2013 10:53

Nell-I love it

BrainDeadMama · 03/03/2013 08:56

If you wanted a full name with Nell as nickname, you could use Helen/Helena, as mentioned, Eleanor or, my fave, Penelope :)

SanityClause · 03/03/2013 08:09

I know an Eve who's just Eve (AFAIK).

To me Nell is a nickname, and I dislike nicknames used as names. But, obviously you are more than okay with it, so feel free to ignore my prejudices!

Verynearlytea · 03/03/2013 08:06

Ooh just looked at replies for first time, this was my first ever mn post so happy to see some folks answered.

Seems the consensus so far is for Nell. That made my happy so I think I may have found my real preference.

Glakit, good idea on the trial for each, she's going to have a Nell morning and Eve avo.

Bumbolina thanks good to hear a personal experience.

Thanks all, very helpful.

Eve!

AuntieStella · 03/03/2013 08:02

Helena: then Nell is already a nn and people may be less likely to muck around with it further.

ErikNorseman · 03/03/2013 07:57

Nella is pretty, nell for short?

SugarMeFingers · 03/03/2013 07:48

Nell, you could use Nella as a nickname to steer people away from Nellie. Congrats!

BrainDeadMama · 03/03/2013 07:40

Nell. If it suits her?

Congrats :)

GlaikitFizzog · 03/03/2013 07:24

Nell 100%

Does she look like an eve or a nell? Maybe try calling her nell today and eve tomorrow see which fits.

Congratulations! Ooh I'm broody! Sniff her little head, just the best thing! :o

Bumbolina · 03/03/2013 07:20

I know a little Eve that is about 5 and has never been called Evie? If you like it go for it!

deemented · 03/03/2013 07:18

LOVE Nell!
