What do we think about the name Arden

and what middle names would go nicely with it?

This is for my very good friend, currently living in Switzerland but eventually moving to the UK, her DH's surname starts with 'N' though. Would you think this as a problem?

When children go through that really annoying pahse of rhyming thongs she will be Garden.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 03/03/2013 17:11

I too thought of Arden as a boy's name. Blush

Anyway middle names for Arden could be
Arden Sophia
Arden Eloise
Arden Jeannette
Arden Violet

but regardless, I think with their surname starting with N it might jar a little? How often do we rattle off a middle name when introducing ourselves? If that doesn't bother them Arwen could be a nice alternative?

Can I also suggest Aurora or Autumn.

FellNel · 03/03/2013 02:46

I like it but I think the child will get called Hard On at school, and at uni, and quite possibly at work as well. So No.

freerangeeggs · 02/03/2013 23:56

It could be a lovely name but it makes me think of erections. Which is a shame.

mewkins · 02/03/2013 17:45

I know a man called Arden. It's quite a nice name.

Spoonful · 02/03/2013 07:35

I thought hard on too. Sorry!

raisah · 02/03/2013 07:34

Arden was the surname of a lady I used to work with. Again, lipstick comes to mind & I'm not keen on surnames as first names. but that's just my opinion.

DonderandBlitzen · 28/02/2013 22:55

Was going to say i liked it, but good point about "hard on." So don't do it

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/02/2013 22:55

Hard on here too, sorry!

ApplyYourself · 28/02/2013 22:49

Makes me think of the dog food - Arden Grange.

Plus the hard on thing too

LynetteScavo · 28/02/2013 22:47

I think of it as a girls name, as the only person I've ever known called Arden is a girl.

At first, I didn't like it, but it's really grown on me, and now I think it's lovely.

No idea about the surname, and I think any middle name they like would go.

littlemefi · 28/02/2013 22:44

Have a friend who's DS is Arden, I really like the name, but I do remember when baby was born, my friend's DH went in to work and told work colleagues the name and they were taking the mickey and saying " sounds like hard on".

AmazingBouncingFerret · 28/02/2013 22:39

Oh good i'm glad i'm not the only one that thought hard on.

Please don't do that to the poor child.

NorksAreMessy · 28/02/2013 22:37

Very old school friend is Arden.
He is a boy...well a 52 year old boy, but a boy all the same

EarlyInTheMorning · 28/02/2013 22:34

DF is worried about the two 'Ns' together, wait till I tell her what you lot have said...

Rhubarbgarden · 28/02/2013 22:29

Oh I thought it was a boys name too. Hmm. No, don't like it for a girl.

Selks · 28/02/2013 21:32

Poor child will be called HardOn by all the bullies. I wouldn't use that name for that reason.

Mononoke · 28/02/2013 21:23

Ah yes I see Awsome Wellies beat me to it

Mononoke · 28/02/2013 21:22

I love it and really wanted to use it until I told a friends Mum about it and she said " people will call him Hard on" Grin I couldn't get that out of my head, so decided to go for something else.

5madthings · 28/02/2013 21:22

There is lady who runs a fb page with six girls! Her youngest is Arden and is lovely, I really like it :)

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 28/02/2013 21:22

Oops! Blush

I don't know why I automatically thought 'boy'!

Arden Emily?

Moominsarescary · 28/02/2013 21:20

I liked it (for a boy) until someone on here said it sounded too much like hard on

EarlyInTheMorning · 28/02/2013 21:17

The name will be for a girl and they're moving to London.

dopeysheep · 28/02/2013 21:13

Was going to say exactly the same as awesome wellies.

5madthings · 28/02/2013 21:12
