Ok so I entered my daughter into the local newspapers best baby competition. I've bought the newspaper today and in my daughter's category there are the following:

Acer (girl)
Minnie
Oakley
Sasha-Belle (actually love this but still..)
Maisie-Mae
Jäger (girl)
Avah'Riane
Tyla-Jay (girl)
Harijak (as in Harry Jack, not a mixed heritage baby from photo/surname)
Riley-Gareth
Teejai (boy)
Ocean (girl)
And that old favourite....Nevaeh : )

Grin that feels better!

ripsishere · 05/03/2013 00:28

Mine was Ne-vee-ahhhhhhhh or more easily, bonkers.

FellNel · 04/03/2013 15:34

Or silent E, take your pick. Either way it's bollocks.

FellNel · 04/03/2013 15:33

Aah. I get it now. It's that old silent A again. Hmm

Grin

How do you pronounce Nevaeh? It's very tricky.

ripsishere · 04/03/2013 03:42

DD had a Nevaeh with a sister princess and another Angel at her last school.
At this one she has
Fanny Pong
Fanny Kok and best of all Minge someone or other.

NandH · 04/03/2013 03:36

NEVAEH NEVAEH NEVAEH !!!! love it!!

FellNel · 04/03/2013 03:31

The apostrophe seems to be the new hyphen where names are concerned. I think it's still mostly chosen by parents who have an African-Caribbean heritage but it will spread and become pretty commonplace among working class white people eventually, as they are often swayed by black popular culture.

Bringmewineandcake · 03/03/2013 22:51

No offence taken hazel - it wasn't planned, just happened to be in the shopping centre when the photographer was there.

lula I'm guessing it's Ava then Rhianne just with unique spelling Grin

Still18atheart · 02/03/2013 16:48

Quite like Maisie - Mae. Would have thought Acer would have been a boys name. Perhaps she was conceived with the help of a laptop.

Ginebra · 02/03/2013 16:43

Female is when the haven't chosen a name! we had a female at school, well she had a name but on her birth cert it said female. stupid parents couldn't pick a name and sort out the admin????

MummyPig24 · 02/03/2013 10:11

Some of these names are truly hideous! Klamidia??!! Why didn't the registrar stop them? I like Frank though.

marriednotdead · 02/03/2013 08:35

I am from South London.

NONE of those names surprises me! I read the list thinking, yes, and? I have clearly been round here too long.

oi whats wrong with Brian?

He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy

raisah · 02/03/2013 07:29

I heard Trixabelle shouted out across the hall at the local music group.

Shauvaun - why mutilate the spelling of a classic name?

Candice (Candy is her nn)

LulaPalooza · 01/03/2013 17:03

How the actual fuck do you pronounce "Avah'Riane"?

QueenOfFarkingEverything · 01/03/2013 16:59

happychappy I actually don't believe you about some of those - they are well-known to be urban myths Hmm

OkayHazel · 01/03/2013 16:48

Maybe it just says something about the types of parents who enter their babies into these competitions! (sorry OP)

happychappyJB · 01/03/2013 16:33

I am a teacher and you should see some of the names we get in school -

Jedi (seriously)
Female (pronounced Fem-ah-lee)
Kofi (for a short white ginger kid!)
Klamidia (so not joking - it's practically abuse!)

It's so bad!

Lulabellarama · 01/03/2013 15:26

maidmarian What on earth is wrong with Frank?

FriggFRIGGisPoorlySick · 01/03/2013 12:26

I like Acer and Oakley...

the other names are just, well,I'm not surprised to see them in a 'judge-my-baby-soley-on-their-outer-beauty-and-then-give-me-money-competion'. Hmm

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 01/03/2013 11:02

There won't be any confusion over nursery coat pegs. Refreshing to see such variety!

UnrequitedSkink · 28/02/2013 23:04
