Luna Violet....Too far out or manageable?

Hello!
We decided tonight that we both love the name Luna. We think it is beautiful. It means moon but is also associated with magic and madness which is an idea we think is very cool ha.
Possibly will team it with Violet as a middle name as this was initially top of our girls list.
Keeping names and gender(once we find out in two weeks) a secret so can't ask for friends opinions so what do you guys think?
I myself have an unusual name (first middle and maiden name) and usually suffered from awkward spelling and mispronunciation due to this, tended to be known by a nickname til my mid teens. However this shouldn't be an issue with Luna as its pretty straightforward. Plus I now love my name and appreciate the fact I know nobody else with it, and never have!
So opinions please on Luna possibly followed by Violet. Mental or quirky?

Sorry, Luna Violet sounds like a nightclub to me.

I love both names individually, but not together.

You could just swap them around, Violet Luna sounds better. I had forgotton about the two surnames, they do that here too but generally only use one of them day to day. On official forms is usually the only time both surnames (and middle names) are used.

sorry, I really don't like it.
For me it isn't just that you can make it into Lunatic, on its own it sounds like an abbreviation of Lunatic.

I love most of your boys names, (love Ezra - dh wouldn't use it!) and I like Violet.
I think there are so many great names out there, I wouldn't want this one.

Ha yes lets rule Lunette out!Thinking out loud like a tit.
Luna Poppy is pretty. Pleased to know not all children/people sway to the Looney etc when its a name used in practice.x

I know a Luna Poppy. Has never been called loony, loon etc.
Lunette sounds like a brand of tampon though.

Haha oh gosh Waynetta!I shall steer clear.Oh can you imagine had I gone for that?!Gabrielle is a pretty name but its too fussy with a middle name,a family surname and then the surname ha!Hopefully this child will enjoy spelling.We'd thought Violet would be good as it can be pronounced the French way too.x

Yeah it's really super popular here. Lunette doesn't sound nice, it's a bit Waynetta iyswim.
What about Gabrielle/a? That works really well with French, Latin and English accents.

Yeah I've heard it was popular in Spain. We have French roots...what about Lunette?Not sure,its just come to me ha.
Maybe we'll give Violet a rethink?
Matilda is a lovely name but we already have a Mathilda in the immediate family!

Ha yes I have also since found out about Uma Thurmans child(very long name!) but its a nickname yup?
I think its a name that could be classic too with its Latin roots. Dr Luna ... if its good enough for Dr Pixie of Embarrassing Bodies haha!
We know a family with the surname Loonie. Naturally this was their nickname. It was never said out of ridicule.

Luna is a very popular name in Spain and not 'out there' at all imo, we hear it all the time and it's lovely. Not keen on Violet as a middle name to go with it though, the two don't flow well together.

More than happy to hear peoples opinions. Being the reason I posted. Hoped for simple 'Love it' or 'Not for me really.' Or 'not together personally'. If you read the thread you'll see I am welcoming of polite objections and its interesting to see what connotations others come up with that we missed.
However when your opinion is just rude and,frankly,unecessary such as 'ugh its vile.its not a real name.just no.insert ridiculous stereotype here.you are inflicting negative things upon your unborn child(probably the most offensive and ridiculous)' then its really not constructive.
In my year at school we had an Ellen and a Dominic(if we think being rude is fine then in my opinion I find both these names entirely dull). They are both traditional and conventional names. These children were called Smellen and DomiDick.
As for the WAG comment.Until posting on here I had no idea about that. It isn't the sort of thing I'd know or be swayed by either way. Not everyone is ruled by celebrity. I'd be more inclined to move away from a name if it were to be used by a high profile 'celebrity' and was considered 'trendy and popular'.
We can cope with the odd 'Looney/Lunatic' comments. We are from a family full of character and creativity. I'd be very surprised if this didn't rub off on and was built into our child. Plus they would have a conventional middle name should they really struggle as they get older or ,heaven forbid, become a serious person!

Not getting the whole 'Parma Violets' thing, but it is making me think of some kind of newly discovered plant (a 'lunar violet'!). Luna is pretty but seems quite favoured by celebrities at the moment (e.g. Frank Lampard and Uma Thurman's new baby is known as Luna); suspect it may be getting more common (124 born in 2011, according to ONS). And it does presuppose an artistic, slightly alternative person - not sure how it would work on a sensible lawyer/accountant type!

I would feel sorry for any child named "Luna"..... she is so obviously going to be called "looney" at school - "Looney Smith" or whatever.

Maybe you assume she will be able to brush it off, but you haven't even met your child yet. What if she turns out to be the shy, sensitive type? Have it as a middle name if you like it, but don't set your child up for a lifetime of schoolyard bullying teasing.

very odd when people come on here asking for opinions and then get snotty when some people don't like it....

OP herself has acknowledged the Luna tic issue - surely this is not something you would willingly impose in a small child (regardless of whether some WAG has also chosen the name.....)

I love them both, individually. Luna brings feelings of the moon and darkness, then Violet makes me think of purple. Kind of just get ultra violet Confused

They are beautiful names, I don't love them together though to be honest.

Erm, wasn't Luna Lovegood in Hp named that becasue her parents were a bit 'out-there', and wasn't she called 'Loony Lovegood' throughout her school career?
I think it sounds really pretty as it rolls off the tongue but will be a lifetime of teasing for your daughter.
