We are struggling a bit with naming our 3rd baby. Dh really likes the name romilly, but we already have a camilla. My worry is that, although we never use the nn milly, both girls friends might do, so we could end up with two Millies! Is this over thinking or is that a reasonable concern to have?

I don't think the names are too similar - I do think there is a tendency to overthink these things. Too similar are Lois and Louise, Rosemarie and Rosalie, etc.

Romilly is a beautiful name - my favourite shortened form would be Romy.

My friend has used Mallory, which has a similar sound to Romilly but wouldn't clash so much.

I love it! It was my midwifes name during labour 💜 if I didn’t already have my heart set on a name I’d have used Romilly 😍

I really like Romilly too. I'm of two minds though as a sister of Camilla. I do think they sound lovely together, but wouldn't want the repeated 'mill' sound. I think you could keep away from the Milly nn easily enough (already you say that Camilla is never called Milly). I know a little Romilly who mostly goes by Romy (pronounced Roam-y) but have also come across Romy pronounced Rommy, so you could go either way with Romy pronunciation.

Re pronunciation of Romy as nn for Romilly I’d suggest it would be Rommy because it’s a shortening of Romilla and Romy is an entirely different name

I always think of Romily Weeks too. Sure she was at London tonight for a while, I remember Romily Weeks, London tonight Smile. I think it’s nice. I don’t think kids tend to pick Nicknames that much, unless it’s a very obvious shortened name such as Thomas, Tom. I wouldn’t really think of shortening either to Milly. I like Romily and goes nice with Camila

Romilly Weeks is a Sky news presenter and I always think that her name sounds lovely.
To me, Camilla and Romilly are so pretty together.

Unfortunately you're right to acknowledge that you can't control their nicknames with friends and at school, and they may both get called milly - they may not even have much say in it!

For what it's worth, they are both lovely names I just wouldn't use them together. What about Romany as an alternative?

What’s your other children’s names? Would it match with them?

Camilla and romilly are quite different styles.

When we named our Romily - just one L - we thought it was pretty unique. And then . . . there was already one Romily when she joined secondary school - and now one of her best friends is another Romily, who's attended the same college. They call each other "Other Me". They don't get confused by this!

That's what I am worried about FrauGrau - I wouldn't shorten either name but others might. I do love Romilly though...

You do not get to select your child's nickname - her friends will do that in spite of you.
I know 2 Romillys one male one female . Not convinced I like it for either but there you go. Camilla is nice, but not with romilly too many Molly's in that combo

I love Romilly. We'd have called our DS2 and DS3 that (if they'd been girls, of course Grin). I'd go for Romy as a nickname.
