Help my poor nameless DD!

DD2 arrived on Tuesday and we still have no name agreed on! Help!!!

Ideally I would like a reasonably unpopular/unusual name, nothing top 100 and nothing too girly.

Names we like are:

Astrid (but worried about shortenings to ass??? Any thoughts?)
Cerys (but have a good friend with this name so is a bit weird to use it)
Sabina (know a child with this name so bit copycat to use it)
Hazel (don't like possible shortening to 'Haze')
Amber (clashes with surname)

I like Lucy but DH doesn't, also Jemima and Tabitha.

DD1 is called Ruth.

We seem to like foreign/Scandinavian/German type names quite a lot so any ideas about those would be fantastic.

Thanks for the further suggestions. I like Saskia but is a bit fancy compared with Ruth - DH is doing a bit of work at the moment but when he's finished I am hoping to force a decision. Any further Scandinavian type names welcome, I am keeping Astrid, Hazel and Cerys on the shortlist and will show this to DH in hopes we can add a few more!

I work with an Astrid, a Lotta, a Greta and a Silke. All German/Scandinavian, all lovely!

Scandinavian wise, I have lived with (amongst others) - a Nina and a Veroniqua (pronounced Vir-oh-neek-ah) both from abroad. Also know of a Malene (pronounced Mi-lay-na) ...

What about Anelise (Anna Lees) , Ingrid, Engleberta (German name), Dorethea?

How about Selena or Serena? Bit like Sabrina, but not the same.
I like Astrid but could see it being mucked around with.
Don't think Hazel is likely to be shortened.
Ingrid, Marit, Liesl & Freya suggestions all sound lovely.

Astrid was on my list last time and is fab. I really don't think you need to worry about the shortening.

I like Marit and Liesl - I like Sofia too but DH doesn't (grrr!)

How weird would you find it if you had a fairly unusual name and a good but not best friend used it for their child?? Maybe we shouldn't dismiss Astrid and Cerys yet.

CONGRATULATIONS Smile I agree with Lady Margo as I also know a Hazel and have never known her name to be shortened in any way. It's a lovely name. I also like Cerys and Amber. What about Freya?

Naomi goes well with Ruth and has a similar feel-not scadinavian sounding tho i admit. I love Cerys though.

I thought Carys was a good compromise, but for some reason DH loves Cerys and hates Carys Hmm.

Esther rhymes with our surname LadyMrgolotta Grin! It's a shame as I like Hester, but that is one letter away from our surname with a whole lotta rhyming going on!

Hazel is lovely. I've known a few people with the name, and it's never been shortened to Haze. Goes very well with Ruth.

What about Esther?

Sorry but Amber, Lucy, Jemima and Tabitha sound like animal names to me Grin I've known plenty of dogs and cats with those names.
