30 weeks with DC1 and really struggling with Scottish names

Hi

We are looking for Scottish names and have thought of lots that we like but are not sure that we love any of them. We like names that are not overly popular/common, but do not like anything made-up sounding. We have tested some ideas out by subtly dropping them in conversation with friends but to date these ideas have been met with hoots of laughter! Shock Confused Having seen some of the great ideas you have come up with for other people, I thought I would put it out there...

For girls the current shortlist is: Flora, Ishbel, Florence and Kate Anne.

For boys it is: Archie (a family name but concerned it is too popular at present), Blair, Cameron, Hamish, Gregor, Monty, Ruaridh, Ranald and Lorne.

Any thoughts/ ideas...?

Any thoughts? Lorne is a square sausage.
Other than that they're all nice.

I am Iona btw, and my brother is Fraser.

Love Hamish (Scottish version of James). Ruaraidh has so many spellings that it gets a bit confusing. Lots of boys have names that are also sirnames (e.g. Cameron, Fraser). Ranald is a good name.

Those are lovely names. Sometimes you have to wait and see your baby and you'll just know what suits him/her.
I also like Iona, Ailish, Angus, Ross.

How about Angus? Or Struan? We have a Magnus, which we pass off as Scottish because it was inspired by our trips to Orkney where it's very popular.

Love Florence, Hamish and Ruaridh. I like Lewis and Diarmid too.
