I love this name and considering it for dc3. Possibly Alma Lily. What do you think?

I like it. As well as apple in Hungarian, in Spanish it means 'soul', so lots of nice meanings Smile

OkayHazel · 03/02/2013 16:24

Alma mater.

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 03/02/2013 10:03

yes you could be the ultimate Alma Mater! .... giggles to self contentedly....

Thank you! Really nice meaning, feeling quite sold on it now. My dh quite likes it and is "having a think" so I just hope he agrees!

yummy girl!

amazingmumof6 · 02/02/2013 22:56

echidnakid - I checked the meaning of it, alma mater means "nourishing mother"in Latin.
so alma would be the nourishing part, which I personally find very interesting, because as it's been mentioned upthread, it also means apple in Hungarian.

OP - I can't help thinking, that if, you name her Alma, she's going to be one of your 5 a day! Grin

Love it, and Alba too.

Cute

FloraPost · 02/02/2013 22:14

Love it. Seems I only breed boys, but its top of my girls list.

LynetteScavo · 02/02/2013 19:02

Actually, if I'd never herd it before, I would think "What a lovely name."

LynetteScavo · 02/02/2013 19:01

It's one of my great aunts names (never met her, so can't tell you what she was like), and it will always remind me of the place Princess Diana died.

amazingmumof6 · 02/02/2013 18:48

evianna yes, it is pronounced like that, lovely name.

amazingmumof6 · 02/02/2013 18:45

it means apple in Hungarian and a lot of people use it. very nice name

AuntieStella · 02/02/2013 18:27

My first thought was of the battle. So I'd assume either you or DP militar history enthusiasts.

The Corrie association isn't that strong, as although a long running character, she wasn't one of the biggies, like Vera or Audrey.

Snusmumriken · 02/02/2013 18:25

more info on Alma

evianna · 02/02/2013 18:15

I also know an Alma, pretty little half-Hungarian girl, apparently it means apple in her mom's mother tongue... I love the way they pronounce it, something like Ahl-mah.

Oxtailchambermaid · 02/02/2013 11:53

Another yes vote here. I know a little Spanish Alma, beautiful name.

LetsKateWin · 02/02/2013 11:45

I like it. I knew an Alma and she was one of the sweetest people I've met.

Snusmumriken · 02/02/2013 11:43

It is one of my favourite names. If DS had been a DD, she would have been called Alma.

washngo · 02/02/2013 11:26

Fairly mixed responses! Still really like it though...

Sorry really don't like it, there was also a cinema of that name in my childhood town so for me it would be like naming a child Odeon!

AntoinetteCosway · 02/02/2013 09:54

I knew an Iranian Alma once and always thought it was a beautiful name. She was pretty gorgeous which might have had an impact!

washngo · 02/02/2013 09:47

I don't mind too much whether its trendy or about to become trendy, I just love the way it sounds. I would worry if people thought it was a cruel thing to name a child though...!
