Names you secretly like but could never burden a child with?

Was talking baby names with my husband yesterday and he admitted to wanting to name a son Aubrey. When I stopped laughing he agreed that it might lead to a little bit of bullying. But then I love
Evelyn (for a boy!) which is equally bad...

Have you or your DP got a secret soft spot for a name that might not go down so well in the playground?

Gray, Prentice, Rudy. Dammit, I thought I was done with babies but now I've remembered about Prentice...

If DS had been a girl I really really loved Esme, but DH insisted everyone would think of the Hunchback of Notre Dame shouting "Esmerelda!" Hmm

I shall revive the campaign if we have another.... :)

Reaa · 27/01/2013 22:15

Electra for a girl. DH refused to even think about that name for our DD.

MrsMushroom · 27/01/2013 22:10

Bunty. I just adore it and if DH had let me....

Greensleeves · 27/01/2013 22:10

Rainbow was always my "the world just isn't ready for my brilliance" name.

Then I told dh, and he said if we had a girl he would be happy to call her Rainbow Shock

then we had a boy.

Devora · 27/01/2013 22:08

Dorcas
Tracey
Moishe
Mordecai

memphis83 · 27/01/2013 22:07

Argh I meant Ayrton

NoraLuca · 27/01/2013 22:06

thislittleP BIL is called Sofiane, pronounced Soufyan. I always liked it but does sound like a girls' name in the UK.

I really, really wanted to call my future DS Aragorn. Luckily, I only have DDs. So far. Grin

memphis83 · 27/01/2013 22:05

Aryton. Love this name but it is met with a turned up nose from everyone.
For a girl I love Stevie but that is also met with a funny face.

jennybeadle · 27/01/2013 22:03

Portia

I think there are loads more...but that's the one.

OhBotheration · 27/01/2013 22:01

Florries, Iago is v cool Grin

thisthreadwilloutme · 27/01/2013 22:01

Oh and Felix.

In another life i will have three kids, Seth, Felix and Phine.

OhBotheration · 27/01/2013 22:01

Sookie.

The poor lamb would never live it down, would she?

thisthreadwilloutme · 27/01/2013 22:00

I really really wanted to call my ds Seth but it was vetoed.

He's Joseph. I am very tempted to start calling him Seph.

I would also have loved to call dd phine but was vetoed again.

DoItToJulia · 27/01/2013 21:58

Buzz. Vetoed by boring DH.

FlorriesDragons · 27/01/2013 21:58

And Emlyn the Gremlin. Sigh.

FlorriesDragons · 27/01/2013 21:56

Rafferty, Cassandra and Iago Grin.

zipzap · 27/01/2013 21:56

I wanted Ptolomy for both my ds but dh vetoed it :(

I also quite fancied jethro as a second name for ds2 but that got knocked back too - not sure how but we ended up with Edward which isn't a name I thought I'd ever use for a child; I didn't particularly like it when dh suggested it and I still dont. It's not a bad name, it's fine for other people but just one I'd never choose myself. And yet somehow my choice of names got vetoed because they're not particularly common but dh's boring choice got used. Not sure how that happened and still don't like the fact it happened.

DowntonTrout · 27/01/2013 21:55

If DS was a girl I wanted to call him Tatiana. It was 25 years ago. MIL vetoed it as she said the poor child would be nick named Tatty.

At the moment I have a penchant for Ferdinand (Ferdie) for a boy and Sidonie or Sydney for a girl. Ha- there's no chance of me having any more DCs so I can be as fanciful as I like.

Alisvolatpropiis · 27/01/2013 21:55

Salome.

It's just a no really isn't it.

I thought Aubrey is traditionally a male name, variation of Oberon, king of the fairies? Or am I thinking of a different name?

TiddlyOmPomPom · 27/01/2013 21:50

Valentine

Wylye

Fox

We already have an odd surname, so didn't want to burden DS with an unusual first name too!

BNmum · 27/01/2013 21:48

What's wrong with Bertie and Ralph?
