Names you secretly like but could never burden a child with?

Was talking baby names with my husband yesterday and he admitted to wanting to name a son Aubrey. When I stopped laughing he agreed that it might lead to a little bit of bullying. But then I love
Evelyn (for a boy!) which is equally bad...

Have you or your DP got a secret soft spot for a name that might not go down so well in the playground?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Malachy or Joaquin for a boy

Alisvolatpropiis · 28/01/2013 18:48

winter I fully intend to call a daughter Hermione should I ever have one Grin

BinarySolo · 28/01/2013 16:37

I like Emrys too.

survivingwinter · 28/01/2013 14:29

Florian
Montague
Peregrine

or girls
Anastasia
Hermione
Anys

I love Constance for a girl but my husband says it's too English (we're Irish). I think it's beautiful. I even like Connie and I don't usually like nicknames/shortened versions of names.

shockers · 28/01/2013 12:04

I love the name Lettice for a girl (it's a very old English name). DH wouldn't hear of it!

BinarySolo · 28/01/2013 11:52

Thor
Jett
Odin

Think I better save them for dogs.

HoneyandRum · 28/01/2013 09:23

This is not true to life as my DH would definitely call a child Wolfgang, he wanted to call our youngest son Wailea (name of a beach)

HoneyandRum · 28/01/2013 09:20

Wolfgang

ClaraBean · 28/01/2013 09:20

I just love Ulysses, but you just can't can you (can you? Grin )
Also Queenie for a dd.

RobinSparkles · 28/01/2013 09:17

Spike Milligan's real name was Terence. I wonder why they called him Spike?

AnathemaDevice · 28/01/2013 09:16

I love Persephone, but it sounds far too posh for where we live.

ThroughTheRoundWindow · 28/01/2013 08:29

Now Spike is a name i'd never thought of. What's it short for do you think? It's brilliant. And Spike Milligan is an ace namesake.

Tiddlyompom, I know someone who has just had a baby Esme and I think it's lovely!

I like a lot of the names already mentioned.

I love
Aurora - people just seem to think Disney princess
and
Delilah - that ghastly song.
People have always done Hmm faces when I've said that I like them so I've steered clear. DH didn't like them anyway!

WafflesandWhippedCream · 28/01/2013 07:37

I like lots of long and flowery boy's names:

Cornelius
Ludovic
Emmanuel
Gabriel
Florian

Perhaps just as well we had girls Grin

I like Christabel and Tatiana for girls, but couldn't quite bring myself to raise them for serious consideration - I realised if I was embarrassed even suggesting them to DH, it probably wasn't the best choice!

EvenIfYouSeeAPoppy · 28/01/2013 07:20

Amadeus
Orlando
Melody

StraightTalkinSheila · 28/01/2013 07:18

Gabriel. Beautiful, beautiful name. However, you can imagine the teasing at school.

Also, Lilith for a girl. Sounds lovely, but very unpleasant Biblical connotations!

Booyhoo · 28/01/2013 01:46

i like aubrey!

for me it's rafael.

i love the name william but it wouldn't go down too well where i live. better hope i dont have any more boys, 'cause i really love the name.

DessieLou · 28/01/2013 01:36

My dp practically wet himself when I suggested Aubrey! My list of names I love but couldn't bring myself to use includes...
Atticus
erroll
fifer (actually I would use this if dp let me!)

I'm sure there's loads more I've banished to the back of my mind....

anonymosity · 28/01/2013 00:15

Zebedee
Laszlo
Pippin

Love these names, but wouldn't burden a child with one.

LynetteScavo · 27/01/2013 23:05

Oh, I love the name Ludvig!!!

And Amadeus and Howard and Arnold.

I did give DD a, um, name lots of people don't like as her third name DH and I both like it, but didn't dare use it as a first name. Sadly DD doesn't like it.

aimingtobeaperfectionist · 27/01/2013 22:59

Pearl.
Love Aubrey too for boy or girl.

DP for to name dd so agreement is I get to name the next one Grin

LottieJenkins · 27/01/2013 22:55

My driving instructor years ago was called Aubrey!
Not planning on having any more but i used to like the name Thadeus until Nanny Mcphee and "Mrs Thadeus Quickly"!!! Wink

skratta · 27/01/2013 22:50

Raven. For a boy.

Ash, but that isn't really unusual for a boy exactly.

Thor. Love the name. And I'm Scandinavian, so could pull it off for a son....

Evangeline. But a bit too princessy for a real child iyswim.

Falco, or Peregrine. I think they're handsome boy names, but wouldn't use them.

spiritedaway · 27/01/2013 22:42

Wolfgang is cool and Wolfie for short is super cute :-)

We met a kid in the park called RedRoses. . .true story
