What say you? I do love hippy-ish names and I think it's the most hippy-ish name dp would let me get away with (Summer was vetoed). It's not a mame I've heard elsewhere yet plus I quite like the Dr Who reference Blush

I work with a Melodie, she gets called her full name. I like it. Good choice.

ccsays · 23/07/2013 00:06

Thanks everyone, nice to get a general thumbs up consensus Smile

I think we're pretty much decided, seen as we've already got the don't judge nickname of Melly Bean going on Blush

I love it.

NowPlayingZone · 22/07/2013 21:51

It's really pretty, but I still think it would be fine on an adult.
Definitely go for it.

lottieandmia · 22/07/2013 18:30

Melody reminds me of The Queen's Nose - but it's fine imo. If you like it, use it.

FetaCheeny · 22/07/2013 18:28

I think it's lovely. I've known two adult Melody's, one I went to school with and it never occurred to me as hippyish. The other I met travelling and she was a wonderful free spirited hippy type. She went by 'Melo' which I think is a really cool nn.

Longdistance · 22/07/2013 16:18

My dd1's bf is Melody.

I was a bit Confused about the name at first, but I really like it now.

SoullessButSunny · 22/07/2013 16:09

I love it!

Choccyhobnob · 22/07/2013 16:02

Really like it!

VelmaDaceDinkley · 22/07/2013 15:58

I like it, but I don't like Mel - which it will inevitably be shortened to.

Eskino · 22/07/2013 15:51

Too close to 'Melanie' IMO.

If you like hippyish and dr Who why not go for River?

8thplace · 22/07/2013 15:47

I went to school with a Melody in the 70's.
Lovely name. Pretty and unusual. I have never met another.

She was blonde, petite, sporty and popular.

Congrats for your safe arrival.

holidaysarenice · 21/07/2013 19:11

I have a family member in her thirties who's a melody! We love it.

Sometimes she gets mel, but lots of people misspronounce melody for melanie. Drives her batty!

ccsays · 21/07/2013 18:57

Giving this a wee bump because since making this thread a) I've got up the duff and b) it's a girl! Grin Sometimes find myself swithering a wee bit on it, but DP seems to really like it.

I was put off it after teaching twins called Melody and Harmony...

amazingmumof6 · 01/02/2013 09:12

lovely, go for it. hope she'll be musical!Grin

MidnightMasquerader · 01/02/2013 08:51

Love it.

Dee is a great nickname.

sausageandorangepickle · 31/01/2013 22:02

I like it - although not the style of name I would use myself (any theoretical girls here would have names like Anne or Jane)

I was just thinking if you would prefer a more hippyish style name (as you said this was the most you could get away with) you could use 'River' as a family nickname using the Dr Who connection....

MakingAnotherList · 31/01/2013 07:27

I have a Melody, her friends call her Melly or Melody, nobody ever calls her Mel.
She is a teenager and has never been teased about it. I have only ever received lovely compliments on her name.
Her siblings have very traditional names but hers doesn't seem out of place.
She loves to hear her name in a song, which happens quite often, and there is a Sanrio character called 'My Melody' which she loves too.
I obviously think it is a lovely name and we are in no way "trailer park" material.

perplexedpirate · 31/01/2013 07:19

Definitely Dr Who, and therefore very cool. Smile

Starfishkiss · 31/01/2013 07:15

I quite like it. I know a Melody and she is 'Melly' for short which always seemed to suit her

Locketjuice · 31/01/2013 07:08

Don't like it Hmm

Sorry, sounds old lady ish to me Hmm

MusicalEndorphins · 31/01/2013 06:50

Have 3 girls and name them Melody, Lyric and Harmony. Grin

Dominodonkey · 30/01/2013 23:28

It's pretty. And the fact that she can shorten it to Mel if she turns out to be a bit straight laced is also a massive bonus.

Viviennemary · 28/01/2013 21:02

It's quite a nice name in theory but don't think I would use it myself.
