Help need a classic, not dull or not too popular girls name for DD2

That's it really.

Found out we are having a 2nd girl yesterday. Our 1st DD is Anna Isabelle, both classic not too popular and family related names.

However really struggling with DD2 name. Like Rose/Rosa and Sophia but too popular. (I had a popular name in the 70s and hated being known with my surname). DH has suggested Doris (which is NOT happening!!!).

Any ideas oh wise MNnetters????

Thanks

Charlotte, Alice or Helen/Helena?

MrsFrederickWentworth · 25/05/2013 18:31

If you have Elsa, you can use Elsie as a nn.

But no, Alice and Anna are fine.

Other Elizabeth diminutives

Lily
Beth
Bette
Elise

I too like Elspeth, esp if you are Scots.

LaChaiseVerte · 25/05/2013 18:27

I LOVE Mary! I don't think more simple, classic names are dull at all, I think their beauty is in their simplicity.

Ellen
Alice
Ruth
Harriet
Kate
Martha
Juliet
Sarah
Imogen

MiniPenguinMaker · 25/05/2013 18:22

Elspeth is pretty, and a version of Elizabeth too I think?

Madamecastafiore · 25/05/2013 18:09

My fave name for a girl at present is Nancy.

DH likes Gabriella, Kitty, Lottie and Claudia.

Anna and Nancy sound nice.

JojoMags · 25/05/2013 18:06

Meredith, Edith, Kitty (short for Katharine), Esme

CityGal29 · 25/05/2013 14:04

Susan - very rare and cute nicknames like Suzie

mrsbugsywugsy · 25/05/2013 12:37

Anna and Alice sound fine together, better than Anna and Elsa IMO

lottieandmia · 25/05/2013 12:33

I don't think it matters that they would both begin with A.

Bearandcub · 25/05/2013 12:32

No Anna and Alice sound fine together.

Bearandcub · 25/05/2013 12:31

Sorry didn't read your last post.
I personally think Elsie has become too popular so would vote for Elsa given your original criteria.

But agree with PP who suggested Alice as a first name. It's such a lovely name.

lottieandmia · 25/05/2013 12:30

I would go with Alice.

orangeone · 25/05/2013 12:29

I did think of having Alice as a first name but thought that would be too close to Anna?? both starting with A's

This is a nightmare!! Confused

In my opinion Elsie Alice Rose flows a little better than Elsa Alice Rose, just because of the "a" sounds but if you are like me it is unlikely that you will use all her names at once on more than a handful of occasions.

Other derivatives of Elizabeth include:
Betty
Betsy (Betsy Alice Rose sounds nice)
Libby
Lisa

I hope you don't have a mega long labour, though.

Bearandcub · 25/05/2013 12:26

Catriona

emmyloo2 · 25/05/2013 12:24

I like Elsa but Elsie sounds more like a nickname to me.

What about Alice as a first name?

We have very similar criteria and I am 40 weeks tomorrow and we have finally decided on Victoria. I adore the name Anna.

Elsie is lovely but there seem to be a lot of baby elsies around. Elsa is nice too but Elsa alice doesn't roll off the tongue very well because of the two A's.

how about Alice as a first name?

otherwise if dh likes Doris Hmm how about Dorothy or Dolores (nn Lola)?

or as you say after you have given birth you can just smile at him and say 'she looks just like an Eliza, doesn't she?'. it would be a hard hearted man who would turn you down.

Elsa Alice Rose.

StrangeGlue · 25/05/2013 12:10

Lucy, Sarah, Laura, Josephine, Katherine, Harriet, Charlotte, Alison, Jessica

Haven't heard any babies round here called these and are all classics!

Hi all

Sorry to revivie an old thread but disaster has occurred on the name front. Am 39+3 and 'D'H has woken up this morning and said he hates the name Eliza now. Given that I am refusing the name he likes of Doris (!), I can't force him to like Eliza (or can I if labour is long???!!) so panicking that soon to be born DD2 will be nameless!

Anyway, after some conversation he has stated he quite likes another diminutive of Elizabeth (the family name we both like but can't have because of 2 nieces - one on each side with that name). So now thinking either Elsa or Elsie.

Also complicating issue is that due to recent loss in thefamily, I would like to have the middle name Alice from my grandmother so name would be [name] Alice Rose.

My question(s) is which oh wise MN sounds better with that combination of middle names - Elsa or Elsie?

Also would it be too weird to have Elsa (which I slightly prefer), given that DD1 is an Anna?? (thinking of shouting names in playground?)

Or at this point should I just give up and resign my fat hormonal pregnant state to accepting Doris??? :-(

Eliza Rose is very pretty...so long as you aren't bothered by Rose being a fairly popular middle name. Other names I think go well with Anna and aren't over-used are Sarah, Rachel, Louisa, Hope and Imogen.
