Where does this girl's name come from? Is it short for something? My daughter loves Woolly and Tig on Cbeebies and it makes me wonder every time I watch it. The family in it are Scottish...is it a gaelic/scottish name?

ooh i love the name Antigone - imagine if your surname was Tigglesworth though?
just one thing, wasn't Antigone the mother of Oedipus? Shock

WhiteHairReally · 26/12/2013 23:04

The Tiggy I knew as a child was nicknamed that as she used to growl like a tiger in her playpen. Not sure if she paced as well.

lljkk · 26/12/2013 22:03

Tegan becomes Tiggy, too.

PerkyPenguin · 26/12/2013 22:02

I know a Tigerlilly called Tiga or Tiger for short.
Tegan could become Tig

Skogkat · 22/12/2013 21:52

Grin ItStarted DP and I have had MANY arguments over the name Tig and also about Topsy

Theonlyoneiknow · 14/12/2013 13:50

The Tigs I know are nn for Tegan

tinkybaby · 14/12/2013 13:45

Tig is a varient of Tyr. As in the Norse God.

LILMSCOATESNME · 19/03/2013 08:25

Tig in the program's real name is Betsy but I thought maybe they took Taggart (her real father who is also plays her dad on the show is Taggart) and as a 'show biz' joke changed it to Tig for her. FYI her real aunt plays her mom and her big sister is her 'narrator'

jaide · 19/01/2013 21:20

My parents and other family members call me tiggy as I was a big baby. Came from tiggy lumps.
I'm now 40 and don't mind being called tiggy, althoough sometimes have to explain why.

Beamur · 19/01/2013 21:18

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 19/01/2013 21:16

SanityClause · 19/01/2013 21:11

MoodyDidIt · 19/01/2013 21:09

hatebeak · 19/01/2013 20:11

I thought it was Theresa for some reason...

Alisvolatpropiis · 19/01/2013 20:10

I agree with it being a obvious nickname for Antigone. There was a girl a couple of years below me at school called Antigone. I think it's a lovely name!

LingDiLong · 19/01/2013 16:49

Thanks all. I think it's quite a cute name for a child but you'd definitely need a longer version for when you're an adult. The child on the TV program is very, very cute and definitely suits the name.

I know an Antigone who is Tiggy, Tig and Tigs for short. It's a heavenly name - adore it.

seeker · 19/01/2013 09:50

I know a Tig short for Agatha.

I also used to know a Plods, short for Penelope.

Posh people are sometimes very odd........

topsyturner · 19/01/2013 09:50

Teigan possibly ?

Bluestocking · 19/01/2013 09:46

Tiggy Legge-Bourke's nickname is something to do with Mrs Tiggywinkle the Beatrix Potter hedgehog.

MummyPig24 · 19/01/2013 09:27

I know a little girl called Tiggy, short for Antigone, her father is Greek.

wonkylegs · 19/01/2013 09:18

The only Tiggy I know was short for his surname Tigglesworth
