Alan.
Bet he'll be the only Alan in his class.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I know a few Dennises which is of that ilk I think.

Sasparillo · 15/01/2013 19:31

They initial all the names at my children's nursery, even if they're the only one. Alan....hmmm...each to their own?

DefiniteMaybe · 15/01/2013 19:27

I liked it too. I've not met any others under the age of 50 before. I also know a 2 year old called Neil.

Some of these names aren't ready to be brought back yet (like Roger, Keith and Alan).

Does anyone know any baby Derricks yet?

deleted203 · 15/01/2013 19:25

Isn't it funny how some (perfectly nice) names go out of fashion? I haven't taught a Peter for years, yet when I was at school (I'm 45) there were lots of Petes and Peters.

Megglevache · 15/01/2013 19:23

Ooooh and a baby Michelle!

noblegiraffe · 15/01/2013 19:23

I teach an Alan, a Keith and a Guy at my secondary school! No Rogers though.

Megglevache · 15/01/2013 19:21

I tried for Eric for my ds and Douglas....dh was having none of it. I like Alan. We know 5-8 yr old Sallies ,yvonne ,Barry,Alec and Larry....tis the next "cool" trend I reckon...

ThisIsMummyPig · 15/01/2013 19:16

What a suprisingly nice name. Not disimilar to Alice, which is everywhere.

Viviennemary · 15/01/2013 19:15

Nothing wrong with the name. It's a lot better than some of the dreadful names in vogue at the moment.

HazeltheMcWitch · 15/01/2013 19:13

It's this type of name that will be making a resurgence, I think.
Have known of 2 baby Joans just this month also.
I think that Alan/Joan and the like are going to replace Maud, Lily and Arthur.

Catchingmockingbirds · 15/01/2013 19:13

Alan is quite common, is it not?

bulletwithbutterflywings · 15/01/2013 19:13

Keith would be nearly 4, yes!

reddaisy · 15/01/2013 19:11

I met a baby Roger a few weeks ago. An ex colleague of mine was called Roger and I was very fond of him so I like the name!

DoItToJulia · 15/01/2013 19:11

I know an Alan! And a Vernon!

bulletwithbutterflywings · 15/01/2013 19:11

There were 2 Alans in my year at school, there was a Guy and a Kevin too. I'm 26.

CanIHaveAPetGiraffePlease · 15/01/2013 19:10

Ooh bullet is he nearly 4... I used to know one. . .

JustAHolyFool · 15/01/2013 19:10

Oh and it's not that uncommon in Scotland. Pretty normal, I'd say.

JustAHolyFool · 15/01/2013 19:10

I love the name Alan. It's my first choice if I ever have a son.

EvilTwins · 15/01/2013 19:09

There was a kid in my class at school called Alan (I'm 37) and it was odd then. I now teach an 11 year old called Alan, and think that is odd too. Alan is only allowed for the over 50s

bulletwithbutterflywings · 15/01/2013 19:09

Someone I know just called her ds Kal-el. At ds's first baby group there was a little Keith.

DuchessFanny · 15/01/2013 19:08

Hmmmm just realised how much i like it, one of those old names that creeps up on you and you realised how nice they are Smile

AThingInYourLife · 15/01/2013 19:05

I've always like the name Alan.

tammytoby · 15/01/2013 19:04

Great underused name! We sometimes forget why we name someone - to identify him/her. And a little Alan will unlikely have to add his initial like all the Archies and Harrys do these days.
