Met a little boy on holiday this year and thought it was a nice name. What do you think? With second name Daniels.

LilyVonSchtupp · 01/01/2013 01:12

I've re-read your post SirBoob and really like Iset for a girl. (makes note)
I know nothing of egyptology despite my many hours being dragged through British museum.

SirBoobAlot · 01/01/2013 01:10

Ah but by spelling it phonetically, you loose the power of the Name Wink

pictish · 01/01/2013 01:09

Thoth is what Bonnie Langford puts on her chips.
No.

LilyVonSchtupp · 01/01/2013 01:08

I am really tolerant of names. If people want to call their DC Apple, or Fifi Trixibelle, or Police Inspekta or Fadgina-Mae or Arsenal or even (god forbid) Oliver/Olivia I really don't bat an eyelid.

This is the first name that I've thought GOOD GOD NO.

That said, Jer Hoe Tee is awesome. It should be spelt phonetically though.

JustAHolyFool · 01/01/2013 01:02

MrsSchadenfreude I wanted to thay the thame thing.

GothAnneGeddes · 01/01/2013 01:01

That is now the worst name I've seen suggested on here.

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/01/2013 00:58

Brown thoth or tomato?

SirBoobAlot · 31/12/2012 01:02

Egyptian God of wisdom and writing actually, not dead.

Prefer it to Seth, which is used quite frequently, and makes me shudder each time I hear it. At least Djer-hoti didn't murder his brother, and chop him in to pieces...

If I was to have a little girl, would consider Iset Grin Do know of a Nephthys. And named my wheelchair Neith, goddess of chariots.

Imabadmum · 31/12/2012 01:01

Dear god no. No no no no no no no no.

Thoundth like a terrible thpeech impediment.

And names pronounced in a way that bear no resemblance to their spelling are a nightmare for kids when they start learning to read and write. Their name is the very first thing they will read or write. If Thoth is pronounced Djerhotee how bloody confusing is that for a 4yo grasping the alphabet for the first time? Siobhan, Niamh, other classic examples best avoided.

HappyNewBleurgh · 31/12/2012 00:50

It sounds a bit erm...stone age.

AlreadyScone · 31/12/2012 00:39

As a voiceless fricative, you cannot shout a "th" and therefore "th" should never account for more than 30% of a child's name.

I pity little Thoth and his 80% silent name when he reaches for something dangerous...

MoelFammau · 31/12/2012 00:33

Thothages and mash.

bootsycollins · 30/12/2012 20:13

Noth!

CaptainNancy · 30/12/2012 20:08

You do realise that 'Thoth' is NOT pronounced th-oth?

It is pronounced Djer-hoti (Jer-hoe-tee) to pronounce it correctly- apparently one of the hieroglyphs was mis-translated for ages, and that's why Brits say Thoth rather than the correct name.

Lizzylou · 30/12/2012 19:06

No.
Dear God, for the love of all that is holy.

He'll end up taking you on Jeremy Kyle and blaming all his life's woes on your name choice or suing you or worse...

NO! There is a reason that is the only boy named that name ever.

CatPussRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 30/12/2012 19:06

delilah88 · 30/12/2012 19:05

LemonBreeland · 30/12/2012 18:49

It sounds like you've been to the dentist for a filling and have a wad of cotton wool in your mouth.

JuliaScurr · 30/12/2012 18:47
