Muslim Boys Names??

lovemybabyboy · 29/12/2012 14:32

I am 12 weeks with DC3 and already have 2 DS's, my DH is muslim but I am not, we would like a muslim name that works well for both his family (African) and my family (Irish). We are living in the UK, so that is also a reason for having a name which is easy to pronounce/spell!
We have a girl name picked but we always struggle with choosing boys names! Any suggestions would be welcomed and appreciated as we have nothing so far!
Thank you in advance!

My nephew is Muslim, they also wanted a more English sounding name and went for Zane.

firawla · 04/02/2013 17:01

I like Idris from the ones you mentioned, you hardly meet anyone called Idris! so its more unique but obviously without being wacky or anything

ldt87 · 04/02/2013 16:56

My nephews are soulyman and Moses, their dad is Muslim, mum is not. I think both those names work well in both cultures, they really suit them too.

lovemybabyboy · 04/02/2013 16:53

sorry my D is having a problem, have to press it really hard to work but keep forgetting!

Oh yes, I like Jibril also, my problem is DH oesn't like discussing baby names so I end up fining lots that I like then when he eventually discusses names with me he vetoes all of them! Sad

Jibril? It is the Muslim form of Gabriel.

I really like Bilal - I was keen to give it to ds as a second name but dp doesn't get on with his father and it's his dad's name so I lost out on that one Sad.

lovemybabyboy · 04/02/2013 15:32

Thanks again for all the responses, DH said he likes Jamal or Jamil, what o you think of those? I do like them but have a feeling that he wouldn't actually stick with them as in his culture you have to name your baby after someone! which also makes it more difficult!!
I have always liked Adam and Noah but he has said not with DS 1 and 2 so doubt he will agree this time!

Isitme1 we had already picked a girls name so was looking for boys names.

We found out today that we are infact having DS3!! so the search for a boy name continues!

I like Bilal, Omar, Zain and Idris from the suggestions.
I also really like Sulayman but my DH's uncle lost his son last year and that was his name (he was only 2) so although it is very normal for many family members to have the same name in his culture I feel that would be insensitive to choose that name! Sulayman was DH's grandads name.

Anymore suggestions or thoughts on the names I mentioned?

"Not sure I know what a "Muslim" name is really"

Without meaning to hurt your feelings, if you don't know what a Muslim name is, maybe you shouldn't be arguing about it with those who do.

Tamer = Tam ("Whole, complete") + Er ("soldier") = "A complete soldier", or very strong man, if you like. This is a secular Turkish name, not in any way related to Islam.

It is like thinking "Sitting Bull" is a Muslim name because you have met a Native American Muslim by that name Smile

Teoman is the name of a khan from back when Turks were in Central Asia and worshipping Tengri, like Cengiz (Ghenghis) and Atilla. I wouldn't recommend any as Muslim names, although they are the names of some Muslim Turks.

DtrawSonkey · 30/12/2012 19:30

Love the name Nail which I think is pronounced Nile, unfortunately people will assume it is nail (as in hammer & nail). Also like Saif.

binkybonk · 30/12/2012 14:55

Idris for sure, but I'm biased Wink

lovemybabyboy · 30/12/2012 13:56

Thank you all so much, lots to think about here, some lovely suggestions.
DS1 has an english first name and muslim middle name, both names sound similar, DH's side of the family call him by his middle muslim name. DS2 has a muslim name which sounds very similar to an irish name and also to a name which is quite popular at the moment. Sorry but can't tell you their names as don't want to be outed! We have not told anyone in RL about this pregnancy yet!

Not Amrit as above - bloody autocorrect!

Amir - it means Prince

iamabadger · 30/12/2012 11:46

Well the little Tamer I know is the son of Egyptian Muslim parents! Not sure I know what a "Muslim" name is really, anymore than I would classify names as "Christian". My name is Sarah and I know Jewish, Christian and Muslim women with the name.

Spanishomelette · 29/12/2012 23:18

Satyen
Omar
Qasim
Hasan
Adham
Hari

CoteDAzur · 29/12/2012 22:45

Teoman and Tamer are not Muslim names. They are Turkish names that have no relation to Islam.

thirdfromleft · 29/12/2012 22:32

I like Ali.

QueenOfCats · 29/12/2012 22:16

Amrit - means Prince

TerraNotSoFirma · 29/12/2012 21:00

Samir is my favourite.
