It's a girl! Let the naming begin - Rose or Nina?

So we found out we are having a girl to complement our DS1. So I can now thankfully put aside boy names and focus in girls names. Middle name will be Catherine.

Currently we have narrowed it down to Rose or Nina? My son is called George. Another option is Laura.

Your thoughts?

I vote Laura. Or Lara.

Szeli · 29/12/2012 00:05

Nina. Love the name, totally beautiful xx

rhondajean · 28/12/2012 23:39

Nina. I have a wonderful friend called nina, she is amazing and intelligent and spirited and creative.

ggirl · 28/12/2012 23:38

Rose , my 20yr old dd is a Rose , she is def not called Rosie

RiaUnderTheMistletoe · 28/12/2012 23:30

I love them both, but Nina (just) takes the lead. Personally I'd wait until your dd is born and see which suits her best.

MustafaCake · 28/12/2012 23:26

Nina is gorgeous. A strong, cool and unusual name

Rose is very dull.

DrSeuss · 28/12/2012 23:22

As a teacher, I'm just happy the child has a name. I taught a Tekeila, a Harley Davison and a Marley, as in Bob!

ninah · 28/12/2012 23:22

All great names, use them all

emmyloo2 · 28/12/2012 23:19

DrSeuss - I would have Catherine as the first name except it is my SIL's name and my DH refuses to name the child the same name as her. I won't bore you with the details but we don't particularly love her, let's just say that. He is happy to have it as the middle name though.

I actually like Catherine Rose better. I have an Elizabeth Katherine although she is known as Lizzie or Smelly Brat.

FloozieTinsel · 28/12/2012 23:10

Xposts, Emmyloo2. Good choice!

Fozzleyplum · 28/12/2012 23:09

Rose (or Rosa?)

FloozieTinsel · 28/12/2012 23:08

Don't like Nina, sorry. Rose is DN's name and also my very late grandmother so I like it. If you call her Rose and stick to it, she will be Rose. Silent Mammoth, if anyone calls her Rosie, you say her name is Rose. End of. Somebody tried to do that to my DN when she was small. Didn't get past my DM Xmas Grin. Not that there is anything wrong with Rosie/y if that's what you name a child, but very different name to Rose imo.

emmyloo2 · 28/12/2012 23:04

Thanks everybody. Nina goes better with the surname which starts with 'S' and has another 's' in it but I think Rose is better with Catherine although I am not that fussed about the middle name matching. It is my late Aunty's name and I am definitely using it. I also don't like rose as a middle name only because every second girl here has Rose or Grace as the middle name. I just adore Rose as a first name which doesn't even make the top 50 here for some reason.

I think deep down my preference is Rose. My DH I think prefers Nina.

Nina!

Melody3boys · 28/12/2012 22:16

I know one other said they didn't like Nina and I have to agree. Rose is much much nicer. I seem to be I the minority though!

SilentMammoth · 28/12/2012 22:06

Rose is lovely but strongly dislike Rosie, which you may not have control over. Nina fab.

lljkk · 28/12/2012 21:15

Nina. Rose is very nice but so overdone. Nina Catherine sounds lovely to me.

HenriettaTurkey · 28/12/2012 21:11

Nina! But I prefer Nina Rose to Nina Catherine.

KateShmate · 28/12/2012 21:11

Nina is just unbelievably gorgeous.

How about Nina Rose Catherine 'Surname'?

Personally I don't think either names 'go' on their own, but both together is lovely

singinginthelifeboats · 28/12/2012 21:09

Middle not mode...... Sorry!

singinginthelifeboats · 28/12/2012 21:08

Nina for sure.....my godmother was called Nina and that was what I planned for my DD..... But then she arrived by another route, as it were, already named and I didn't have the chance.

Rose is nice and I think Nina Rose is lovely but if you are decided upon Catherine for the mode name then Nina (Catherine) is much nicer

Whatever she is called she will be fab.....

serin · 28/12/2012 21:06

Both gorgeous but not sure that Rose goes well with Catherine.

I love tassiss suggestions

MerylStrop · 28/12/2012 21:03

My DD is called Nina, but Rose is lovely too, you can't go wrong
How do they fit with your surname?
I find Laura is a bit....boring.... sorry

Jojay · 28/12/2012 21:02

Nina or Laura, not Rose.
