Immediate reactions to Arthur

I really like it and think it's a good, solid, masculine name but not sure if I'm brave enough to use it as I'm sure some people will think it's a really odd choice. I'd love to know your immediate and honest first reactions to it. I know I shouldn't be bothered by what other people think but that's how I am...obviously, or I wouldn't be asking for your opinions.

DS was born shortly after Arthur miller died, I wanted it, DH said no!

It's growing in popularity around here (south east)

I would use it but it would cause untold issues in my family because it was my paternal grandfathers name. Which isn't the only reason I like it. But I'd have to honour every other man in my family if I ever used it.

Depending on the accent local to you - will it bother you if he's mainly an Arfur?

I don't like it at all but it's very popular at present so I don't see that you need to be brave, if you like it, use it - it's not like he'll be the only Arthur at school - I know 3 under 5 yrs at present.

Love love love it. It was very high up our list for a DS. I'm almost slightly annoyed DD has an 'A' name as I don't think we can use Arthur for any future DS's!

Arthur not an odd choice. I luuurrrve it. Everyone can spell it and say it and it is nickname free which I like.

Names of that era are becoming more popular as I am sure you know.

I know a lovely one who is 13yo Grin - he is the only one in his school (which he likes) but we have come across one or two others (one is in DS2's school, aged 7 I think) so it's not totally out there.

It's a fine name - not unusual at all, currently a very popular, common name. No 'bravery' required!

King of the Britons! (Might get some minor teasing when his friends discover Monty Python in their early teens). As associations go, it's pretty good.

I don't think you have to be brave - there's quite a few Arthurs round our way. I didn't used to like it but am becoming inured as I get to know more of them.

Personally, I don't like it...but as a small child out next door neighbour was called Arthur so maybe I've just got it in my head as an old man's name. I have come across it on a few small boys though so it seems socially acceptable. Sorry, I'm not really much help!
