Immediate reactions to Arthur

I really like it and think it's a good, solid, masculine name but not sure if I'm brave enough to use it as I'm sure some people will think it's a really odd choice. I'd love to know your immediate and honest first reactions to it. I know I shouldn't be bothered by what other people think but that's how I am...obviously, or I wouldn't be asking for your opinions.

OP posts:

Love it....

vesti23 · 30/12/2012 12:04

Love :)

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 30/12/2012 01:07

No abbreviation? No nickname? LOL are you two (Clary & Preggers) serious?

Artie
Art
Thor

I like Artie, not so keen on Arthur - but it's certainly not edgy, there are plenty of them around now :)

RiaUnderTheMistletoe · 30/12/2012 01:03

Like it, makes me think of Merlin.

Feckthehalls · 27/12/2012 23:41

LOVE it

Dinosaurdrip · 27/12/2012 23:32

Love, love, love it! It is DS's mn and DN's name it makes me smile every time I hear it.

Dogsmom · 27/12/2012 21:59

My first thought is 'Aaarrrffuuurrr' from On The Buses.

I reckon it's going to be the new Harry soon though as it's starting to become popular again.

DebK2012 · 27/12/2012 15:23

Meant to be newborn Blush

DebK2012 · 27/12/2012 15:23

Know a knew born one and they call him Arthur Christmas Wink

NotInGuatemalaNowDrRopata · 27/12/2012 14:38

It's ok, but what would put me off is the knowledge that so many people would pronounce it "Arfur"

perplexedpirate · 27/12/2012 14:34

It reminds me of Arthur Darvill, who is hot.
Also, Art is a cool nickname.
I would consider this for a DS2. Really like it.

LoveYouForeverMyBaby · 27/12/2012 14:29

To be honest I used to think of it as an old grand dad type name, old fashioned etc, but I do know a baby Arthur and have come round to seeing it as a lovely, strong name.

ThinkAboutItOnBoxingDay · 27/12/2012 13:42

Love it.

There is a theory that the king arthur character was actually a nickname, 'arthur' means the bear in some old welsh dialect. That's me done on random fact of the day!

almapudden · 27/12/2012 12:19

I loved it until I taught a horrible one. Now it reminds me of him! But it is a lovely, strong name.

zxcv123 · 27/12/2012 11:40

I like it and it's definitely become more popular recently. One of David Cameron's children is called Arthur. And I wonder if Wills & Kate have a son if they'll choose it? (Who could resist the temptation of a future King Arthur?? Especially with Merlin being on the telly and all that!)

Chottie · 27/12/2012 09:47

It was my GF name and my late uncles and now I have a year old cousin called Arthur. It really suits him, he is one of those 'Winston Churchill' type babies.

MyFabulousBoys · 27/12/2012 09:45

Great! But I had a lovely Arthur in my family so that probably influences my feelings!

FaLaLaLaLauraPalmer · 27/12/2012 09:39

No abbreviation, preggers? Art and Artie are both derivatives of Arthur (as is the less common 'Thor'!)

LaBelleDameSansPatience · 27/12/2012 07:17

Very popular. Three in my school atm.

preggersbycheggers · 27/12/2012 07:09

My DS is called Arthur. He is nearly 2 now.

We first announced his name there was genuine shock including my DM refusing to call him Arthur and instead calling him the baby!

I still love it and also like the fact there is no abbreviation.

serin · 26/12/2012 23:27

All it brings to mind is this chap Arthur

What's not to like? Grin

ArthurandGeorge · 26/12/2012 23:07

Love it!

Not a big fan myself but 2 separate friends called their sons Arthur within 2 weeks of each other last year!

Wishfulmakeupping · 26/12/2012 18:32

Point not pint
