That's kind of it really...I love the name Isla but keep hearing that it's become very popular. Any views or alternatives?

Orla is top ten in Scotland and Ireland ...

williaminajetfighter · 06/01/2013 02:26

Isla seems to be crazy popular in Scotland. Go for Orla or Otto... As much more unique names.

AuntyAnna · 06/01/2013 01:33

Becoming popular all over the world- I live in NZ and know a few. I think Orla is really lovely it has my vote!

My niece is called Isla. Beautiful name.

CheungFun · 05/01/2013 20:59

I know one Isla and she's a lovely smiley baby :)

I think it is increasing in popularity, but I think that's because it's a bit different, but pretty different not wierd different.

Vagaceratops · 05/01/2013 20:58

3 in our small playgroup.

TunipTheVegedude · 05/01/2013 20:55

The year before last 4 of my friends had daughters, 3 of them got called Isla.

LittleDonkin · 05/01/2013 20:53

I only know of 1 isla and she is 2 and a half

TruckerRobyn · 05/01/2013 20:32

Isla i've found is really common! My cousin (7months) is called Ailla - pronounced the same but the cornish spelling meaning the most beautiful

JustFoldingStars · 04/01/2013 16:15

V popular - I know of 4 Isla's, preschool & younger. Not that I can talk, DS has top boys name!! If you like it, go for it Smile

zenoushka · 04/01/2013 16:10

It is very very popular where I am in North London. But a lovely name.

Clarano5 · 04/01/2013 15:32

Very popular where I am!

FellatioNelson · 30/12/2012 03:33

I think the current fashion for Isla is because of Isla Fisher, but she has been around ages, so it has been a very slow burn!

It's become suddenly very popular - my friend named her DD Isla 3 yrs ago and I'd never come across it (apart from Isla Sinclair) and it was thought unusual, then since then every second girl is called Isla....

StellaNova · 27/12/2012 21:56

Isla was ninth most popular name in 2012 according to the Bounty email, that I got today.

wigglybeezer · 27/12/2012 21:42

Isla in Scotland is not rare but has a widespread of ages from forties down to tinies so wouldn't date up here. Similar Scottish names ( ie. other islands) would be Iona or Ailsa.

I would expect a Scottish connection if I met an Isla.

Do you remember Isla St Clair from the Generation Game ?

AyeOopMoose · 27/12/2012 21:32

DD1 is Isla.

I'm a teacher and wanted a name that I didn't associate with anyone. DD got the final say I would have gone for Miranda

I know of one other, who is several years older and there are no others at nursery. We are in the SW.

I think it's more common in the SE and it has moved to number 11 on the popularity list, so yes, I do think it is fairly common and "of the time".

But do you know what? It is a pretty, traditional yet contemporary name so if you like it don't worry about popularity. It will become YOUR dd's name!

looneytune · 26/12/2012 23:11

I know one Isla, lovely name (she's about 5/6). A good friend of mine has a Myla, a name I'd never heard before and I like equally.

PorkusEnormous · 26/12/2012 21:02

I'm in a small town on Southwest coast, very very popular. Several in my DD's ballet class and more in her nursery.

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/12/2012 18:24

Isla is apparently very popular now but I've only met one and that was years ago. My orthodontist was called Isla.

SpringFlowers · 26/12/2012 18:08

I think we're settled on a short list of either Isla, Ottilie or Orla - baby due in January. Any middle name ideas?

Very popular in London in the last 2 or 3 years. I know three under 3 yrs. it is very pretty, though.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 26/12/2012 15:49

I have an Orla, good choice. Otti is lovely too.
