Sebastian.... What do you think?

This is our first DC, we have a name sorted if it is a DD and we were going to call DS William. DH has now vetoed it as he says it makes him think of prince William. If not Sebastian do you have any suggestions? We want something not to popular and not too modern or 'out there' ?

I love it. DTD was going be be called that if she was a boy

MolotovCocktail · 24/12/2012 10:12

I love Sebastian and it was on my shortlist had DD1 been a boy. DH, however, hated (and still hates) this name. My usually very liberal, leftist DH said it was "a gay name" and one that would suit a "gay hairdresser".

bastard

When I sounded this name to a few female friends, unbelievably, they had the same ridiculous opinion. So, a Seb for me is out of the question unless I get with a new chap and get some new friends!

Other names I like for boys are:

Gabriel
Reuben
Ezra
Isaac
Elijah
Samuel
Jacob
James
Theo
Calen/Kaleb
Cain
Raphael

Nice name, makes me think of Seb Coe these days. William is also lovely though, and as its more popular than Sebastian it doesn't make me think of Prince William at all. I think Sebastian will be used more going forward because of the Olympics though.

Always loved Seb/ Sebastion.

Pochemuchka · 24/12/2012 09:02

I love it!

In fact, you've reminded me how much and it's gone onto my list (which now consists of two boys' names Grin ) for when DC3 arrives in about 2 weeks!

Fancy inspiring me with girls' names (I have zero!) as you have such good taste?! Wink

PurpleTinsel · 24/12/2012 08:49

I love it.

But DH also vetoed it for our baby name list. He said it sounded too girly.

Wishfulmakeupping · 24/12/2012 08:42

Love it - and Seb is a very cool nn

freelancegirl · 24/12/2012 08:36

I love it! And named my PFB Sebastian, who is now 5 months. I'm hoping it's just because it's on my mind though as I seem to be hearing it more often now and would like it to stay more under used. So lay off it :) lovely name though of course if you want to ignore me...

lalalonglegs · 24/12/2012 08:30

Love Sebastian.

poppy283 · 24/12/2012 07:32

I do like Sebastian, but if you watch cbeebies, he's a singing aubergine!

mayanna234 · 24/12/2012 07:29

The problem with Sebastian is the lack of nice nicknames. Seb, Basty? Don't sound very strong/mansculine to me.
How Reuben, Quentin or Cassian which have a similar feel but don't inevitably get shortened?

DorsetKnobwithJingleBellsOn · 24/12/2012 07:01

I love it, we called DS Sebastian, it was the only name we could agree on.

PrimeSuspect · 24/12/2012 06:55

It's top on my list for boys...I don't think it's 'posh' but then I don't think that being 'posh' is something to be ashamed of, in the same way that if somebody said a name was 'Chavy' then you should not be ashamed of that either!! Anyway, I digress. Will be shortened to Seb so you will have to be happy with that too.

Numberlock · 24/12/2012 06:14

Reminds me of Brideshead, one of my favourite TV series, so it's a yes from me.

Fairylea · 24/12/2012 06:13

Someone in our family is planning to call their baby this, due this month.

I'm sorry but I think it sounds a little too "posh". Can't think of a better way of saying it!

It also really reminds me of the neverending story.. but that's just me showing my age!

KeepYerTitsIn · 24/12/2012 06:07

Lovely name ..... Seb for short? Strong, cool name I think.
