Sebastian.... What do you think?

This is our first DC, we have a name sorted if it is a DD and we were going to call DS William. DH has now vetoed it as he says it makes him think of prince William. If not Sebastian do you have any suggestions? We want something not to popular and not too modern or 'out there' ?

Or he might get called Basty Shock

GlitterySparklyBaublesOfDoom · 26/12/2012 21:44

I like it and I like the nn Seb but don't assume that everyone will call him that. My DF's son is called Sebastian and all his mates call him Sebacious. As in cyst. He likes it. His DM does not, which is probably why he likes it!

AnnoyedAtWork · 26/12/2012 21:31

For a BOY I mean!

AnnoyedAtWork · 26/12/2012 21:31

This is my number 1 choice for a bit, but with an 'e' - the French spelling

LadyMetroland · 26/12/2012 21:29

Like Sebastian but wouldn't choose it iyswim. Nice on someone posh.

By the way, Eva/Evie/Ava type names are really really popular at the mo. Not something you'd necessarily know if this is your first dc.

raspberryroop · 26/12/2012 19:36

Love - strong but classic and not too popular yet

HazleNutt · 26/12/2012 19:30

If DC1 is a boy, that's on top of our list currently - the trouble is that I really don't like Seb or Sebby.

catching my puppy is called Milly and it has dawned on me I have ruined both Camilla and Emily...nicknames can run to Milly. I liked both of them.

CatchingMockingbirds · 25/12/2012 01:05

I love it but it's my cats name.

Nishky · 25/12/2012 00:33

My nephew is Sebastian - his friends call him Seb and his mum calls him Barty.

Alisvolatpropiis · 25/12/2012 00:29

It's a great name.

DowntonSprouts · 24/12/2012 22:04

DS 24(!) has the middle name Sebastian.

Obviously I loved it.

He hates it, always has, and berates me often for choosing it.

Fairylea · 24/12/2012 22:01

Eva and Sebastian are the two names my relatives have chosen for their dc.. !

Purplelooby · 24/12/2012 21:46

Yep it's nice.

Love it! This was my top name for DS but DH didn't like it. Still think this name would suit DS who's 3 now. I'm planning to be more convincing if there's DS2 one day..

bruffin · 24/12/2012 21:21

Love it, but i dont think dh was that keen.

WankinginaWinterWonderland · 24/12/2012 21:18

I love this name and Seb for short! My favorite name, if I had another child.

tetleymel · 24/12/2012 21:17

I know a teenage Sebastian who goes by the name of Baz. Not nice.

itsmineitsmine · 24/12/2012 21:15

Hate it. Ugly, wet and pretentious all at the same time. An acquaintance used this name and quite a few people asked "what on earth made you call him that?"

beckslovestimmy · 24/12/2012 21:10

Thank you everybody, in glad it's had a good reception. Were both agreed on Eva for a girl and have been for months. I like Seb as a nn and think that will get used much more than the full name. It's growing on me.

William is super common (not in the English snobby way, common as in widespread), I never think of Prince W. when I hear the name.

Sebastian is a gorgeous name but I think it takes a lot to carry off, it's not a low-bother name like many boys' names can be (I personally prefer low bother names). If your son has speech delay (mine did) they'll struggle to say own name right. It gets easily misspelt. It takes longer for a 4yo to learn to spell it & write it for himself. You won't find it prewritten on personalised items like mugs & pens. Some folk will assume the bearer must be posh. It's quite a grand name, unsuited if the bearer turns out to be a shy or scrawny small person.

MolotovCocktail · 24/12/2012 10:14

Meant to type 'Caleb', sorry Xmas Smile
