What do you think about Geraldine - the surname begins with A. Is it pretentious, or sounds old fashioned to you? What d you think?

don't see a problem with a surname beginning with A but I don't like the name itself

Smugfearnleyshittingstool · 02/01/2013 12:17
  • Claudia even!

I love it, dd is caludia josephine but was very nearly Geraldine. Very mature and sassy name I think

ThePathanKhansWitch · 01/01/2013 23:34

I love it.

Bumpstart · 01/01/2013 23:30

There are some amazing Geraldines out there, but I group it with Roberta, pauline, Stephanie, etc, as slightly naff feminisations of a man's nome.

breatheslowly · 01/01/2013 23:30

I reminds me if germoline. Sorry.

3smellysocks · 01/01/2013 23:27

Josephine is also lovely

mathanxiety · 01/01/2013 04:11

Apologies to GeraldineMumsnet but Geraldine is horrible. It screams 60s and 70s Ireland. There were at least half a dozen Gers in my year in school. It's as bad as Sharon or Linda.

OComeAllYeFaithBaby · 31/12/2012 15:03

I think...McQueen as in Peter Kay! Much nice names out there.

TeaBrick · 30/12/2012 11:43

I like it. I know 2 beautiful, cool, intelligent women with this name Smile

GW297 · 30/12/2012 11:39

Vicar.of Dibley and Michael Winner's wife!

vesti23 · 30/12/2012 11:22

Not a fan

poshfrock · 30/12/2012 01:21

Fine if you like the Vicar of Dibley.

lottiegarbanzo · 30/12/2012 01:13

I'd have thought old fashioned but I met one recently, (early 30s) and, in person, it sounded strong, cool, distinctive and prettier than I'd have thought.

Feckthehalls · 27/12/2012 23:41

cool, strong name

jessjessjess · 27/12/2012 23:27

Sorry but please don't use this, it's an awful name IMHO.

Meiserella · 27/12/2012 23:22

Thanks - and sorry for putting this on the wrong topic..I am myself not sure about Geraldine, and now even less.

I don't like it. I don't think it's pretentious though.

AmandaThripp · 26/12/2012 15:07

I love it, my Grandma was Geraldine and she was fantastic.

sparkle12mar08 · 26/12/2012 14:52

It just screams "Oops, we wanted a boy"...

HarlettHoHoHoScara · 24/12/2012 03:13

No. No. No. It's awful and the inevitable abbreviation to Geri is even worse

copyandpaste · 24/12/2012 03:07

Personally I reckon it's fugly ngl, but if you want it then go for it!

pumpkinsweetieMasPudding · 23/12/2012 23:21

No, No, No and............NO

LolliLouLou · 23/12/2012 23:11

Awful just awful

shellyf · 23/12/2012 23:10
